A. Hi
It's one of the few downsides to the Kindle that you can't read it in bed with the lights off!
But have a look at the link in my "sources" and you will see that there are a fair few Kindle Cases with light and you can also get lights that attach to a kindle. The lights have a variable position that lets you to point it to where you need it on the screen.

A. Kindle Fire HD I'll say. The Kindle Paperwhite is good for reading, but you cannot do much on the device other than that. The Kindle Fire HD is a full function tablet, and it's not bad on reading either. So it's best of both sides. Here you can find an actual user experience for reading on the Kindle Fire HD:

How to turn down the brightness of my kindle fire screen?
Q. I have papillademia (swollen optic nerve) I love watching movies or reading on my kindle, but the light of the screen is so bright it's killing my eyes! I had the same problem with my iPad but then I turned down the light on the screen and it's better an the same be done with my kindle. If so how do I do it?

A. Press the upper right of the screen. That will bring up a ribbon menu. Choose Brightness and then adjust the brightness to your comfort level.
