Q. Okay. I'm new to all of this wireless stuff.
I don't want to have to leave the house any time I wanna be online on my new tablet. (but I do need to register my kindle fire and want to download a couple apps and games).
So, I'm looking into wifi adapters.
I spied this. http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Widemac-WIFI-SL-1506N-USB-2-0-150Mbps-802-11N-Wireless-Network-Adapter-Card-/00/s/MTYwMFgxMjc1/$(KGrHqZ,!i!FCs07eYByBQtu31l1(g~~60_1.JPG
So... if I bought it, I just plug the usb part into the usb cable that the kindle came with, then attach the antenna part to the usb part... and I've got online access? Just like that? Or is there more to it than that?
Do I have to go through a company like I did with the dsl internet access to my house's desktop computer or...? I'm not sure what to do or expect. A little help would be great here!
Please and thank you!
Ricky, omg, tell me about it. I wish I got an Acer Android tablet like my friend did. It's so much nicer.
A. It's simple. Buy a wifi router (readily available) and plug it into your internet connection at home. The router comes with connections to tie in your existing desktop computer. If you have a laptop, you'll love it!
Next, turn on your Kindle Fire and click on the wifi setting. Look for your new router. The instructions that came with the router will help you with how to connect.
After that, enjoy roaming throughout your home with internet connections - free of any wires.
As for leaving the house, I'm able to use my Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD at work all my friends' homes, at most restaurants, Starbucks, Targets, and other popular stores. Free wifi have become more and more available.
p.s. You're looking at the connections incorrectly. The Kindle Fire has it's own wifi antenna and that adaptor you bought is incompatible.
should i get a kindle...?
Q. pro's and cons please for those of you who have knowledge of said item and are avid readers.
Many thanks.
A. Pros:
I got the Kindle 3d and use it often when I read.
I also have a large library of 'real' books. I buy both used and new books.
The Kindle saves shelf space for those real books.
Still, with a Kindle, I can buy a new book for half the price.
It's also immediate and I can read it right away, day or night.
This version uses 'pearl-ink' and a non-glare surface, so it's easy to read anywhere.
Another (important) thing is how light-weight and slim it is.
I carry eighty-seven books and several games (so far) wherever I go.
They offer a warranty that covers any damage for a year.
If the Kindle is broken in any fashion, they replace it for free with a new one.
The battery lasts up to a month.
It comes with an adapter or you can use your USB port on a computer to charge it.
Turning the Kindle on or off is simple. So are directions, sent on (not with) the Kindle.
Edit: The "progress bar" can be seen as page numbers. Follow the directions.
You can highlight things you like, or turn off highlights others made. Follow directions. End Edit.
Cons:
To download books, you must use Wifi.
If you only play games on the Kindle, the battery life is much shorter.
If you leave Wifi on, the battery life is much shorter.
You must pay attention to whether the Wifi is still on after downloading books.
You must pay attention to whether the Kindle itself is still on before you put it away.
You must pay attention to how much battery life is left.
If you don't and the battery is completely drained, it takes longer to recharge.
Some users say if the battery is Really Drained, they have to go online to get it straightened out.
There's a little brochure sent with a Kindle that says nothing at all.
Read the directions found on the Kindle to know more.
Edit: Kindle readers can change both the font size and the format. End Edit.
Im getting the kindle 2 soon and.....?
Q. can you explain what these are?:
Kindle electronic reader, power adapter, and USB 2.0 cable (for connection to the Kindle power adapter or optionally to connect to a PC or Macintosh computer).
A. Kindle electronic reader: The Kindle 2 device itself
USB 2.0 cable: You can use it to connect the Kindle 2 with your computer. After connected, you can copy anything (like Kindle books you have on your computer) to the Kindle 2. It also charges up the Kindle 2 when connect to the computer.
Power adapter: Used to charge the Kindle 2 with power on the wall. That means you can charge the Kindle 2 without a computer.
I think the power adapter is a very good design, as you can see in the following review from an actual user:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR304592OAAOUOI%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ASIN%3DB00154JDAI%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Fpr%255Fcmt&tag=moreinfo-po-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957
You can see he mentioned: "They were smart and designed a USB cable and wall adapter that work together so that you don't have to keep track of two cables."
