A. It wants an account with credit card on file for ordering on the Kindle, even if the price of what you are purchasing is Zero. If you download a free app, your credit card will not be charged.
Amazon is a trustworthy vendor. Just give them your credit card number to put on file for if you do make an actual Kindle purchase.

A. Yes, use Safari to get the book from the Kindle store and select your iPod as the device you want it delivered to from the delivery options on the page. If you registered your iPod with your Amazon account it should be there, if not you will need to do this first

Where can I download the original default Kindle 3 screensavers?
Q. I have jailbroken my Kindle 3 to include my custom screensavers, but I would like to have some of the original default screensavers as well. Where can I find them? I tried searching in the hidden system folders, I don't find them.
A. They're in the linkss/backups folder on your kindle after you install the screensaver hack.
