It as depends on how 'tightly' the iPad2 case is designed, especially in terms of the thickness (iPad2 has a thickness of 8.8mm whereas the new iPad has a thickness of 9.4mm). So, unless you are at the shop to test the case that is meant for iPad2 for your new iPad, your next best bet is to make sure that some manufacturers / retailers, when providing the description on the iPad case, do mentioned that the cases / cover or sleeves are meant for both iPad2 and iPad3.
