What to do with Kindle Fire with cracked screen, but otherwise works perfect?

Q. I have a Kindle Fire 1st Generation. I recently dropped it and now the screen is cracked. It otherwise still functions fine.

As you can guess, it's really annoying to look at it through the cracked screen.

I called Amazon. It's out of warranty, nor would I expect them really to offer to fix it for free, as it was damaged by me, not a manufacturers defect. But sadly, they don't even offer a repair service.

So what to do?
Even if it can't be repaired, do you think offering it for sale for parts would net me something?

A. I don't know about the parts market but clearly it is time for you to upgrade.

Original Question

Do you know a software for Mac or windows which makes managing Kindle easy?
Q. I absolutely adore my Kindle. However I find it quite difficult to manage. Having many books onto it not putting them into collections is close to impossible. However it is such a tedious job to put each and every book into its collection. There must be an easier way. Do you know of any?
I generally add more books at once (last time I added 100- all belonging to the same collection) so putting them one by one is something I would never do

A. Calibre. It's free, runs on Windows, Mac OS and Linux, and is a great tool for anything involving ebooks. It can be slightly buggy at times, but the creator is constantly patching it and releasing upgrades. It has various plug-ins including one for managing Kindle collections. You can have it manage collections automatically I tried that and found it didn't work for me - 1200 or so books got sorted into around 5000 collections, which I believe are based upon tags. But that could just be the nature of my ebook collection. You can also manually manage it, which is a lot easier. Calibre also has tons of features like an ebook reader, conversion options, the ability to download and edit cover art, add tages, and quite a bit more. It's a great little app.

Original Question

How much can I get for my Kindle?
Q. I have a used Kindle 4 gb and its in excellent condition. I bought mine for $149. About how much can I get for it today?

A. Kindles have good resale value.
I purchased a previous kindle 2 for $110, and got about $100 on ebay for it when I upgraded to the kindle 3.
You can go to ebay, and do "advance search" and select "completed listings" to see what other people got for similiar model kindles recently.

I'm assuming your considering the kindle fire now - you can get a good deal on the fire here:

The kindle fire silk web browser supports flash and so will work with rich media sites like youtube flawlessly, as well as pretty much all other sites like facebook/twitter etc, which is something the ipad can't do.
You can load thousands of android applications on it, as well as accessing amazons collections of ebooks/movies and music.
Considering the price it's a crazy deal and in my opinion much better then the ipad for a fraction of the cost.
