My Samsung Galaxy S3 is discharging very quickly and charging slowly, please help?

Q. I have tried USB and straight into the wall and both are very slow. I left it to charge all night while it was on power saving mode and only reached about 54% when it started at 15% in 8 hours. However, whenever I turn it off and charge it, it's only very slightly faster. I have un-installed a lot of apps I recently downloaded when the problem occurred and I have tried multiple cables, all of which charge well and fast for a few minutes then become extremely slow.

P.s if you could let me know if it's a software or hardware problem that would be great.
P.P.s Sorry for the long paragraph but I thought every detail is necessary, thanks in advance :)

A. I would normally agree with a comment like the one space guy mentioned, this is a rather bigger problem than believed. My wife and I both have the Galaxy S3, both were charging great, usually 100% within 2 hours. After she received the Jelly Bean update, (mine has yet to come through) her phone began to take a long time to charge. We changed chargers since mine was charging fine and she still had the same problem. Mine charges fine with any charger. We swapped batteries. I can charge fully with her old battery and it holds great. The problem is her phone and it has nothing to do with 'being patient'. I've been searching for quite a while about this and no real solution yet. Everything seems to point to the Jelly Bean update. Anyhow, although I don't have a solution, I wanted to let you know that you are not alone and it's extremely frustrating. The phone should charge a lot faster and I have just proved it has nothing to do with 'being patient'.

My two cents.

A. Sure.

Original Question

What can I do about my Samsung?
Q. Hello. My name is Alex. In December I was given a Samsung Galaxy Player for christmas. Anyway, I've had a few kinks to work out over the months, but I've always been able to fix or work around them. This time the thing won't charge. I haven't dropped it, gotten it wet, or done anything that I think would cause it to not work. When I plug it into the wall, nothing happens. The device makes no sounds or anything. I've tried three microUSB chargers. One of which was the one that came with the device. All of them gave me the same results. When, I plug it into my computer. The computer makes A sound and looks like it will work with the device, but all that happens is I see a notification pop up in the bottom right corner of the screen that says "USB device not recognized." The device will sometimes vibrate and it appears to charge, but I am doubting that it is actually charging because, when I unplug the cable the device will still act as if it is charging. With the cable unplugged, I go into Settings>About Device>Status it still says the battery is charging even with the cable unplugged. Because of this, I was almost certain that it was a problem with the Android software and not a physical problem. So, I backed up as much of my data as I could(not an easy task because none of my computers will recognize the device) and preformed a factory reset. After the factory reset, I plugged the device into the wall and then my computer. I did not solve any of my problems. That's pretty much where I am now. I think I may have a defective unit, and if so, Is there a way I can get it repaired/replaced?

A. Consult Samsung about the problem and they'll be able to help you. All Straight up Samsung products have a one year warranty as long as they are not on any carrier that has separate rules pertaining to warranty and insurance. You can contact SAMSUNG from their website and then go from there. It doesn't sound like a software problem, it definitely sounds as if it is a port prboblem
