Q. My kids want iPads, but I don't see any advantage to have them over a laptop computer. They seem limited on what they can do compared to a laptop. Anyone was technical experience explain the advantages, if any, of an iPad over a standard computer?
A. I am a high school student and I have used my iPad to do all my school work. Many people do not know this but you can get many computer programs on an iPad. Her is list of apps that can turn an iPad into a Mac like tablet. I have most off these apps except a few I haven't got but will get. For both lists of apps I would suggest you look them up.
Bento (Mac program)
Dragon Dictation (Mac program)
Evernote (Mac program)
GarageBand (Mac Prpgram)
GoodReader (Mac program)
FaceTime (Mac Program)
iMovie (Mac program)
Instapaper (Mac program)
Keynote (Mac version of PowerPoint if you are not familiar with Apple)
Numbers (Mac version of Excel)
Omnifocus (Mac program)
Omnigraffle (Mac program)
Omnigraphsketcher (Mac program)
Omnioutliner (Mac Program)
Pages (Mac version of word) Great app if you plan to write a lot get a bluetooth wireless keyboard.
Papers (Mac program)
QuickoOfice (Mac program)
Sketchbook Pro (Windows program)
SpaceTime (Mac program)
Things (Mac program)
Now lets talk about some amazing apps that lets you do stuff on an iPad where on a laptop you can not do or can not do as good as an iPad can. Also some amazing apps. Some of th are good education apps too.
All of wikipedia (get wikipedia while you have no Internet connection)
Dropmind (powerful mind mapping app
IBooks Or kindle (it's way better to read books on an iPad than a laptop)'
Mathination (Make math calculations easy)
Netflix (iPad way better to watch movies in than a portable DVD player or laptop)
Pcalc (Amazing calculator)
Scrabble (you can't play games like this on an laptop)
Skyfire (App that let's you play flash videos)
Solar system ( see the solar system like you have never seen it before)
Elements (Can not wait to use this app in chemistry)
Wolfram Alpha (yes there is a website for this but you need to check this must have app out it gives you calculations, graphs, and reference anything you could imagine for example I could find the exact force of gravity right where I stand and I could also find the average 17 year old boy weight )
Is there an iPad case that would make it easier to hold and protects at the same time for a toddler?
Q. My 20 months old daughter loves playing with my iPad. But since the iPad has sharp edges,it is very uncomfortable for her to hold it. So I need a lightweight case that makes it easier to hold for her. Also, it needs to be protective at the same time. We already broke one :(. All the cases I've tried either too bulky, ugly or simply don't protect the iPad from breakage. Please advise!
A. Letâs start with the Griffin Survivor. Not specifically made for kids but tough enough to outlast them!
The Griffin Survivor is actually said to protect an iPad (and they have the records of their tests to prove it) if dropped on flat concrete for a height of 6â². It passed their wind/rain test: 1 hour at 200 mm/hr. But they didnât stop there. It passed a rigorous vibration test: 18 hrs at 20 â 2000 Hz. And then just because they could they put it through a sand/dust test of 3 hrs at up to 18 meters/sec and passed that too!
Next we take a look at the Gumdrop kid-friendly iPad case.
First off we want to show you the Otterbox Defender.
Since it was featured going up against the Gumdrop in the video above we thought weâd show you the Otterbox Defender. Otterbox has long been known for the cases it produces and the same can be said for this series of iPad cases. The one main complaint I heard and read repeatedly was that users donât like the screen protector on this iPad case.
While the Otterbox Defender gets 4.5 out of 5 stars the screen protector, which is built in and cannot be removed gets the most complaints. The pros and cons listed below pretty much sum it up:
Pros
The case is rugged and fits well with access to all of the ports
Cover that doubles as stand is nice
Cons
Poor quality screen protector
Screen protector cannot be removed
poor instructions for case removal
screen protector seems to float above the screen giving a âticâ sound when pressing and releasing at times
Letâs look at the Big Grips Frame:
The biggest thing that we found everyone said about this kid-friendly iPad case is that its big a SQUISHY! This durable, lightweight cover is not only secure and very grip-able, itâs non-toxic, lead and latex-free, phthalate and PVC free. So you donât have to worry if your child puts it into their mouth. One review on the Amazon site has a father of an autistic son saying that he was having a bad day. He had his ipad with him in the car watching a movie. As we were driving, he rolled down the window and threw out his iPad! When we got to the iPad it was not damaged and still playing the movie. Thank goodness I had purchased the Big Grip just days before. Iâm sure I would be out an iPad had I bought another case.
The Big Grips Frame only has seven reviews but those that have it love it and give it a big thumbs up with 4.9 out of 5 stars. The two reviews that gave it 4 instead of 5 stars cites the difficulty of plugging in cables while the cover is in place because of its thickness. Anyone that uses a cover on any iDevice knows that feeling and unfortunately itâs a trade off for protection no matter how thick.
The Big Grips Frame is available for all versions of the iPad.
When we asked a group of reviewers that specialize in childrenâs apps the iPad case that invariably was mentioned along with the Griffin Survivor is the Gumdrop. The Gumdrop cases are made to withstand just about anything a child might dish out.
Durable cover provides complete security
Constructed from soft silicone and tough polycarbonate for drop protection
Easy-grip surface texture
Reinforced rubber corners and port protectors
Replaceable snap-on screen cover is easy to clean
ext up is the Disney Hybrid Case and Kit:
If you have a child that loves the movie Cars they are going to love this iPad case! In bright red with checkered flags and a stylus thrown in that matches it completes the whole look while protecting your device. Of course itâs not something you are going to want to keep on your iPad all the time but then you wonât want the big lime green squishy one on there either. The strap for holding it onto your carâs headrest is a nice bonus too.
Pass-through touch screen provides 360 degree protection defends against scratches and sticky fingers
Included nylon strap securely fastens Kid Kit to car headrest and doubles as carrying strap
Included themed stylus
Built in stand enables portrait and landscape viewing
The biggest complaint is that when in place the case obstructs the use of the volume buttons. Other than that users give it 4.6 out of 5 stars.
The Universal foam inserts make this kid-friendly iPad case suitable for your original iPad or iPad 2.
Ektopad e1341854499660 Eleven Kid Friendly iPad Cases [Review]Ekto2:
While we are not familiar with the Ekto brand the users that purchased it seem to like it. It looks very similar to others we have seen and the cushioning seems adequate also. Hereâs a video the company released showing it being dropped. Note though that they never drop it on itâs screen.
How much does it cost for an Ipad 4 replacement at Sydney apple store?
Q. So recently we decided to go on a holiday. The fact that we have already made bookings for a hotel proved that we weren't lying to my brother. He got so excited that he ran, with the ipad 4 in his hands around a corner. Suddenly, we heard a big bang. We thought that it was his head that smashed against the brick wall, but that wasn't it. Hundreds and millions of tiny glass pieces were first visible from the tiled floor. We knew the our ipad 4 was smashed.
My question is.. how much does it cost for an ipad 4 replacement at Sydney apple store. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Please note this is not a madeup story. I just wrote it with extra details. Thanks.
A. Sorry to hear what happened to your ipad but I should also say you should be thankful it wasn't your brother that was harmed - that part in your story sounded like a scene from a scary movie of sorts. :)
Anyhow, an iPad retina should cost you around AU$ 539 (wifi only) and at 16GB of storage. Of course if you go for higher specs and the cellular version it'll cost you more.
Anyhow, you should seriously consider getting a protective case of sorts as well. Mine is on a http://clamcase.com/ (its a keyboard, case and stand all in 1 device) and I never need to worry about something like this from happening plus of course I can do some work on it now with the keyboard.
There are hundreds of protection for your ipad out there so just get what suits you best.
