Q. Hi im a14 year old female and have been saving my money this year for Christmas and I have earned up to $250 for my family (not counting an additional $100 I'm keeping so I'm not broke) and I want to get them all something they would like but idk what! I have my grandma who really likes clothes and jewelry, my grandpa who loves golf and little nifty things, my other grandma who likes cute house furniture, my mom who likes clothes and spa stuff, my dad who likes electronics, electric guitar, and he is really good painter, and my sister who likes clothes, her iphone, her laptop, and shes getting a new kindle from our parents. If you have any ideas or places I could go that would be so amazing!((: merry Christmas!

What can I do to help conserve the environment and save our planet?
Q. I've been wanting to help out but I have no idea where to start. If you could please give me some tips or pointers that would be nice. Also, if you can direct me to any good websites that have some tips that would also be appreciated. Thank you.
A. Don't waste power:
*Turn of things that aren't being used(such as a laptop that has been left on and closed).
*unplug things not being used(If its winter, unplug a fan).
*Don't overcharge things(messes up the battery, wasting power and valuable, dangerous for the environment materials)
*Your cold? Get a blanket, jacket, or share a blanket with someone else.(No Heater/ or fire(fires may not use gas or electricity, but they release greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere, and unless you have a lot of plants planted near your chimney, it wont be turned back into beneficial materials before going into the atmosphere and heating us up.
*Your warm? Wear something lighter.(no A/C)
*Use solar panels as a primary source of power.
*Get a generator bike so you can exercise and generate usable power.
*Cut down shower time(or turn down the hot water).
*Get more efficient toilets.
*Purify faucet water(get a purifier or build your own(boiling the water a few times should be good if it is set up correctly, submarines have water purifiers like this).
*Plant plants- Photosynthesis=good
*Buy an electric bike/car or just a normal bike- You might be able to charge one of these by your exercise generator bike if you have one.
*Clean up trash.- Try to make a game out of it by having friends do it with you, and whoever gets the most items gets a prize.(CITO is also fun- http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=1f9c6a5d-fb10-4a62-a8b1-b5eea689770f -)
*Cut down CFC use- chlorofluorocarbons break down Ozone(O3) which blocks out harmful UV rays from Sol(our sun).
*RECYCLE!!!- stuff you cant recycle yourself, turn into recycle centers, or put it in your recycle bin if you have one. Its also fun to try and recycle your used paper.
*Don't use bottles such as arrowhead water bottles- they can cause cancer, and are dumped into the ocean.
*Find fun experimental devices you can use that are effective and efficient- There was a group that had come to my high school called Campus Footprint- http://www.campusfootprint.com/ - who talked about electric hybrid bikes. They brought a solar oven and had it set up outside. It had no electricity/gas energy source, just mirrors directing the sunlight(infrared radiation) into a greenhouse setup.
*At a party, use reusable dishes- it may be a burden, but its easier to wash some nice plates then to think about all the paper and plastic you just used in the cheap party cups/plates that you probably just threw away.
*Buy a Amazon Kindle or some such thing which allows you to get and read books without killing trees.
I cant think of anymore moderately easy ones, but here are some really hard ones that may get you thinking:
*Reset your(/your and your families) biological clocks- If you rise and sleep with the sun, you will have no need for lights. Wake up extra early, and go to sleep extra early.
*Develop/buy a machine that converts harmful compounds into beneficial ones, ex: CO2(Carbon Dioxide) to Carbon(in graphite, diamonds, living things) and Oxygen(in many rocks, the atmosphere, living things, water) etc...
*Go completely tree huger and build your own city which has a ban on: cars(harmful exhaust), fires(harmful exhaust), lights(use electricity from possibly polluting resources), paper(kills trees), plastic bottles(harmful chemicals) etc.
