Q. I have a Kindle Fire 1st Generation. I recently dropped it and now the screen is cracked. It otherwise still functions fine.
As you can guess, it's really annoying to look at it through the cracked screen.
I called Amazon. It's out of warranty, nor would I expect them really to offer to fix it for free, as it was damaged by me, not a manufacturers defect. But sadly, they don't even offer a repair service.
So what to do?
Even if it can't be repaired, do you think offering it for sale for parts would net me something?
A. I don't know about the parts market but clearly it is time for you to upgrade.
Who do i call for kindle repair?
Q. The screen on my kindle has cracked or something and now half of it is all messed up. Can anyone tell me who i should call for screen repair? I got it for Christmas and i need to know if it is too late to return it and get a new one. Is the warranty used up already? My kindle is one of the newer ones, if that helps.
A. Unfortunately there are not much kindle replacement parts available to third parties. Right now pretty much the amazon is the only one. I have heard more than one person who reported that amazon will replace the kindle for broken screens if within the warranty period. This is especially true now since there was a lawsuit in which someone claimed a defect causes the display to crack. So anyways if I was you I would call amazon, and see what they will do for you.
If they wont replace it for free or want too much for the repair, you can currently get a refurbished kindle 2 for a crazy deal here (just $110):

I have no idea whats wrong with my kindle?
Q. This morning i tried turning on my kindle and it let me slide the power switch to wake it but when i went to type in my password, it wouldn't let me type, like the keyboard doesn't work. But like 2 two days ago my brother threw it when he got mad at me so could that be why? How can I fix it?
A. This is why I prefer good old fashioned paper backs. Just saying. (Egads, I sound like the uni-bomber) Anyway I don't have a kindle (as I'm sure you can tell) but this sort of thing happens to my cell phone all the time (it's a smart phone, little touch screen, I can actually read books (if I wanted to) on it so it can't be that entirely different). If he threw it two days ago and it worked until today chances are that's not the problem. What I do with my phone is turn it off, take the battery out and leave it for a couple of hours then try it again.
Also, this is going to sound really condescending, but I don't mean it that way, I do this sort of thing all the time, but how long has it been since you charged it? It's possible that it has enough power to turn on just not to type.
If either of these things don't work, do not open it up and try to fix it, you'll void your warranty, call the company and arrange to have it sent in for repairs.
Hope this helped, best of luck, I would be so bummed if all my books crashed on me.
