Q. I was wondering if the Kindle Paperwhite produces any type of light, or is it similar to the original Kindle in the sense that I need a light to read it.
A. Actually the selling point of the Kindle Paperwhite is that it has built in light, so you don't need to have external light even you read in the dark. In the past, for the older Kindle models you need an external light or a lighted cover. It's much more convenient now with the light built-in. Here you can see a video showing the lighting on this new Kindle:

The Kindle Paperwhite is really popular now, and I think it's the last chance to order now if you want to get it before Christmas. The sales page said it's expected to ship on 21st December, if you order now (it said 17th December a few days ago...)
Hope this helps.
Does the Otterbox for the Kindle Fire also fit the Kindle Paperwhite?
Q. I'm asking for a Kindle Paperwhite for Christmas and since I tend to drop things and break them, I also wanted an Otterbox. I know they make one for the Kindle Fire but I wasn't sure if it fit the Paperwhite or not.
A. No, I do not believe it does. The kindle paperwhite and kindle fire are two toatlly different devices that have different functions and are different sizes different weights and have different screen sizes as well. They have other cases for the paperwhite, they probably aren't as protective as an otterbox but they're better than nothing. Look on amazon for the cases, I don't think they're sold in stores as of now. Good luck!
If I got Kindle Paperwhite without 3g, later could I pay to get the 3g feature?
Q. I'm interested in purchasing the Kindle Paperwhite. I was wondering if I got Kindle Paperwhite without 3g, at a later time could I pay more money (like with special offers) and get the 3g feature without having to rebuy the kindle?
A. 3G is some feature built-in the hardware. So if you get the WiFi only model, you can't get the 3G back later, because the hardware inside just doesn't support it. You have to decide when you get it.
I suggest you to read an actual user review here, it mentioned whether to choose 3G or WiFi at the end paragraph. Look into the pages of user comments below as well, some discussed about 3G and it should help you decide:
