Q. I want to get an ebook reader soon and I was looking at the Kindle 3 and Nook. Which is better Kindle 3 or Nook Simple touch?
I thought the Kindle might be better because of its reputation but now I'm wondering if I should wait for the Kindle 4 because it's been out for a year already.
Should I buy the Kindle 3, Nook Simple Touch or wait for the next kindle? When do you think they'll release the upgrade?
I won't be able to get one until Mid July when I'm in the US in case that will help with answers
A. Kindle 4: Nothing's been announced. There has been speculation about Amazon doing a tablet this year, but who knows. Playing the tech waiting game can become a permanent paralysis as there's always better coming along. Get what you like now and enjoy...
Kindle 3:
Pros:
+ E Ink display is great for long-run reading -- like reading from a book.
+ E Ink Pearl display provides 50% better contrast than E Ink Vizplex found in regular Nook.
+ 4G internal memory
Cons:
- web browsing, apps, and games are much worse than with a Nook Color.
- no SD expansion
Nook Touch: Same pros and cons as Kindle, plus:
Pros:
+ touch screen
+ EPUB/library support now; Kindles updated later this year
+ SD expansion
Cons:
- no 3G
- 2G internal memory
Kindle 3 or Kindle Fire?
Q. So I can't decide between the Kindle 3 (the one with the keyboard) or the new Kindle Fire. I already have a smart phone, which I can do a lot of what the Kindle Fire can do. I have found that the Kindle Fire is focused a lot of being a Tablet, rather than an e-Reader-which is what I want a Kindle for. I do not like the new style of the new Kindle 4th generation. And I really like the look and just about everything else of the Kindle 3 (3rd generation). I also REALLY like how you can read out in the sunlight without the glare with the Kindle 3. Which you cannot do with the Kindle Fire. Since I am ALWAYS outside by the pool or on the beach during the summer, that would be a big help for me. Any help?
A. Kindle keyboard 3G is the only one that will let you surf the web and any website other than Amazon.com for free using 3G as well as wifi. The keyboard 3G also has alot longer battery life and is easier to use outdoors. The kindle fire needs to be rooted to be an affective tablet anyways. You can add some third party apps to the kindle fire but your choice is limited. The 3G is a better ereader though it is only limited to black and white. If you already have a smart phone then go with the Kindle keyboard 3G and don't pay extra for the no ad version as the ads only display when in standby mode.
what is the Amazon Kindle?
Q. I would like to by an ebook reader is the Kindle any good, and which kindle is the best one to buy?
A. Kindle is Amazon's ereader. The Kindle product line now involves the following choices:
1. E Ink vs LCD display
Choose E Ink (Kindle, Kindle Touch, Kindle Keyboard) if long-run reading is your priority; choose LCD (Kindle Fire) if apps/games/video/web-browsing is your priority. E Ink displays ebooks just like paper-based ebooks, using ambient light; LCD displays ebooks just like computer monitors, using back lighting. On the other hand, E Ink is only black-and-white and is too slow for video. LCD does great with those non-reading applications. Further, Kindle Fire has a sophisticated web browser, Silk, which leverages local and cloud storage and processing dynamically, thereby providing high-performance web browsing.
2. Five-way controller vs multi-touch vs keyboard
Choose 5-way to save money (base Kindle is only $79), multi-touch for easy-of-use, and keyboard for ease-of-typing.
3. WiFi vs WiFi+3G
Choose WiFi+3G if you wish to download ebooks or browse the web when away from a WiFi hotspot. An ereader with 3G support will be able to connect like a cell phone. Unlike a cell phone, however, there is no monthly fee for Kindle's 3G service. Note, though, that the web browser on Kindle isn't so great. Also, once an ebook is downloaded, neither WiFi nor 3G is needed to read it.
4. With Special Offers vs Without Special Offers
Kindle With Special Offers (WSO) Pros:
* $25 (WiFi) or $50 (3G) less expensive.
* May save more if special offers turn out to be useful to you.
* Ads do not show up in the middle of reading an ebook.
* I've heard only praise from those who buy Kindle WSO.
Kindle With Special Offers Cons:
* May just dislike ads in principle, even outside of reading experience.
