A. No, the speed is the same. The other thing you get with the 3g version is GPS that the wifi don't have.
Downgrading from iPhone to a basic phone question?
Q. Hey guys. I would like to downgrade from an iPhone to a basic phone for several reasons but there is one thing that is keeping me from completing the upgrade. I visit new cities regularly and having GPS with you while walking is so helpful. Is there a solution? I have an iPad but GPS will not work without an Internet connection.

A. All phones for like 10 or 15 years have had gps in them by law in the US. However, phones really only started taking advantage of them in gps apps in the last 5 or so.
My suggestion is to do what I did - keep the iphone and use it as an ipod. I had tomtom on the iphone, which completely downloads the map onto your phone. The gps can track you without cell service if you already have the maps on the phone. I didnt down grade, I went to android. But I now use the iphone primarily like a stand alone gps device.
And the best part? my maps are updated automatically as part of the purchase price of the app. With stand alone gps units, you often have to purchase map upgrades. You dont have to get anything new, just keep something you already have.
I suppose if you really want the alternative, then you can get those really old hand held gps satelite signal receiver things. Looks like a huge label maker, gives everything in coordinates, stuff like that. But hey, its not a touch screen phone.
