Q. I use my Samsung Galaxy S3 as a mobile wireless hotspot for my laptop. The problem is, when the phone goes to sleepy mode, it disables the mobile data, therefore I lose the connection to the internet on my laptop? How do I keep the mobile data active even though the phone goes to sleepy mode? Thanks.
A. Keep it from going into sleepy mode, by setting the screen timeout to the longest setting, and touching the screen once in a while. Keep it plugged in so the battery doesn't run out. If you need mobile data on your laptop that much, maybe you should get a 3g or 4g adapter instead of using the phone.
how much wattage should a solar panel be to keep a android phone charged using gps?
Q. this may not be possible on many days, but I will be using a samsung galaxy s 4g as a GPS device. It needs to run fairly continuous for 10 hours per day. I will only be riding on sunny days. I'm thinking of getting a 10-12 watt panel because any higher and its getting too big to fit properly on my bike. would this be enough or will I still be stopping to do ac charges a lot?
A. (Disclaimer, all these numbers involve a fair level of hand waving and vagueness)
The battery in a Galaxy S is about 5 Watt hours.
That is enough to run the GPS and screen constantly for about 3 hours with the screen at low brightness.
So you need a constant power output of about 1.6W to run things.
Since you'll be feeding into the 5V charger input there will be an efficiency hit so call it 2W.
So 10W would certainly be enough power if it can actually output 10W at 5V, in practice the power output is going to be a lot less most of the time. Probably in the 1-2W region.
In other words, it looks like it is close enough that it's hard to give a definite answer without testing it and actually measuring things.
My gut call is that it won't be enough power if you want to keep the screen on all the time, since you'll be outside you'll need to crank the brightness up close to max and that burns more power. If you are OK with the screen being off some of the time then it should be enough.
Why does the battery on a Samsung Galaxy S3 run out so fast?
Q. I left my 100% fully charged Samsung Galaxy S3 laying next to my bed as I went to sleep. When I woke up six hours later, it dropped from 100% to 68% -.-
The Ipod can be idle days before running out of batteries, maybe even a full week. Is there any way I can fix this problem? Any app that does that? Methods? Anything?
A. You can turn off your 3G, 4G, Wifi and any other wireless communications on the device. Obviously the cellular service can be left on because well, it is a phone. Also, you can install a Task Killer/Manager that will kill all the apps running in the background on your phone. I do that and my phone battery will last me forever. Just make sure the internet, etc. only comes on when absolutely needed. Oh, and one last thing, turn off the Auto-Sync on your phone, it connects to the internet and downloads information as well in the background,
