Q. I have an Asus laptop that I've had for about five years now, and that thing has caused me more headaches than I care to count. I'm trying to find a new laptop because mine is getting ready to be retired, and I have a few friends that have gotten Ipads and love them. I am a Junior in college, and I'm an English major, so I am lugging around books every single day. My current laptop weighs about five pounds, and that combined with books is a nightmare for my back. I was wondering if anyone has used an Ipad for school and thought it was better than a laptop, or if anyone has any good laptop suggestions that aren't supper expensive.
A. Ok, so you have a few choices here. An ipad would be a lot more portable than a laptop of course and depending on the model, cheaper. So the laptop will be faster and you can browse the internet faster. Although an ipad has a lot of book apps on it and can be very useful if you don't want to move around 10 books.
If you don't care about crystal-clear screen resolution you can ignore the ipad 3 models with the retina display, so for school, I would recommend an ipad 2 or 3 with 3g connection since you want internet everywhere possible. An ipad would be an excellent choice seeing as you are going into college. If you don't want an ipad, here are a few lower-end laptops. 300-400 price range, if you want something lower, browse through the site yourself.

should i get an ipad 2???
Q. im currently a homeschool junior. planning an attending college in about a year or so. all my work right now for school is done online and i heard the ipad is great for online stuff? also when i start doing college stuff i can buy books for the ipad i think? and record a lecture if i need to... another thought about it i had is to show pictures to potential future clients ( i do photography on the side of schoolwork)
i currently have a macbook pro, but it cant do apps like the ipad or have the same great display...
do you think it would be beneficial??
other things the ipad can do???
A. I myself would love to get one, but I would wait till a little further in the year. Didn't you see how fast they created the ipad 2 after the ipad? By maybe September, the price will probably drop a little, or they might create an ipad 3. I know a few people who got the ipad, but then the ipad 2 came out and they were really annoyed. By the time you decide to buy it, look around on the web to make sure there are no rumors about a third ipad. Look on a few sites, not all websites are true!
Hope this helps, Sara
Junior year schedule: AP classes!?!?!?!?!?
Q. So basically, I am going into my junior year next month, and this is what my schedule looks like
-Precalculus
-Spanish 3
-AP art history
-AP psychology
-Chemistry
-English 3
And I was recently given the opportunity to take AP English Language and composition and was wondering if I should do that instead.. That would give me 3 APs and I don't know if that will be too much to handle, because I suck at math and science and I have Precalculus and chemistry in addition to the two (admittedly easier) APs.
The thing is, the AP Lang and comp teachers at my school... Suck. Honestly. And I just don't know if its better to stay in CP and get an A and go into AP English as a senior or go into AP English as a junior, fully aware that the teachers are notoriously unpassable and run the risk of not making it into AP English as a senior...
Please help, I don't have much time to muddle over things anymore...
(Sorry for any grammatical or spelling mistakes, I'm on my iPad and its late at night :))
Additional details:
My high school is in the top 50 in America, so the classes are extremely rigorous.
CP is usually equivalent to honors here... according to the principal and staff
Also, I received a 97% in freshmen cp English and a 93% in sophomore cp English...
I do not want to die over an immense workload, I want to take challenging courses, but still have an outstanding GPA in the long run. And y'know, still have some sort of social life :)
Please help!
A. It sounds like you're going to take ap english sooner or later anyway, whether junior year or senior. AP english has 2 parts, Lang and comp and Lit and comp. If you just took lang and comp junior year, you could take the ap test and the other ap test senior year when you take that class. That way you wouldn't have to take both the ap tests senior year. Get it? It's only personal preference, what you want to do. Either way, whenever you plan to take that ap english you're going to end up with whatever grade you worked for, if you don't take it junior year it's just delaying the inevitable. If you plan to take 3 ap's or more senior year, not including ap english, then i'd recommend that you take ap english this year. That way you'd be less overwhelmed. And you could drop the class whenever you want, if you don't like it. Also, discuss it with your counselor. If you don't have good teachers you're going to have to teach yourself. It's possible you know. All the ap test includes is a lot of literary definitions for multiple choice and 51% of the test is on your essay that you wrote. Buy a ap language book and study it, and practice writing a lot.
