Q. Alright so I am trying to decide whether or not to get the Samsung Galaxy S5 or the iPhone 5S. I am currently an iPhone User and I am thinking about switching over to Samsung. I like the iPhone and how it works, but I feel that it is a little bit too simple for me. Also, I feel that the iPhone's tend to not be too durable either. Another problem I am facing is most of my devices are Apple products, so I don't know if I would be able to switch all of my data easily. Lastly, I really like the way iMessage and Siri is on the iPhone. The reason's why I am thinking of switching to the Galaxy though is because of the better camera, the bigger screen and the fact that the screen is strong and the phone is water/dust resistant. I know that it is all personal preference, but I just want to here other opinions on what phone I should get and why. Thanks in advance for all of the help!
A. The Samsung Galaxy is a very reliable and blazing fast smartphone, that runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Android 4.4.2 is the latest version of Android and the operating system is very efficient, as it can even run on phones with as little as 512MB of ram on the motherboard.
The S5 has no lag and is powered by a very fast 2.5Ghz quad core Snapdragon 801 cpu. The phone has twice the ram as the iPhone for running larger more complex apps. And it also allows the phone to be able to do true multitasking, which the iPhone 5S can not do.
The screen is highly regarded as one of the best screens in the industry. It supports more natural colors when compared to the dated iPhone screen and it also offers a higher resolution screen as well. (It's Full HD!)
Now the iPhone is a good device. And it gets points for being a simple phone that is easy to navigate. However in turn, it offers no customization to allow you to tailor the phone the way you would like it to be set up.
You may find that converting all your music files and videos may not be as hard as you think. All you have to do is create a folder on your computer somewhere, then highlight what you want to copy over to it and hit paste. Then just copy the videos and music to your folders on the Android powered S5. Simple!
The apps that you have installed on your iPhone, will be impossible to convert over if you had already purchased them. But the good news is that the Galaxy S5 has basically all the same exact apps as the iPhone and more than likely will be free on the Google Play Store. One of the other advantages that Android has, is that apps by far and large, are usually free. However, more complex games or very popular ones still require payment.
Android actually surpassed the iPhone in total available apps last year. So im sure you will have no problems in that department.
Now the S5 does have a plastic body. But it is very durable against scrapes and scratches and dents. (Within reason of course.) The polycarbonate body gives the phone a bit of a cheaper feel. But make no mistake that it doesn't make the phone any less reliable, or less durable than any other phone on the market. The phone is sturdy and not flimsy. And when you start playing with the device you will see how much quality really has gone into the phone.
The phone also does of course have it' gimiks. The fingerprint scanner is rather pointless. And still not as good as a good ol fashioned password, or combination swipe to enter, that the phone also offers. And the heart rate sensor is something that most people probably won't use. But you can also turn off any features that you don't want to use. You can turn off and on any feature you do, or don't want easily, just by swiping from the top of the screen on down to enter the options menus.
If you are happy with the iPhone, then I say stick with it if it makes you happy. But if you are looking for a phone that will be much more rewarding and offer features and customizations unlike anything you had before, then Android is the only way to go. You will gain so many new features when compared to IOS7 on the iPhone, like app integration where apps can fully communicate with one another, to being able to bluetooth images and music from your phone, to other Android or Windows Phone devices from all different manufactures. (iPhones can only send files to other iPhones.)
And finally the S5 offers two voice assistants that are just like Siri. There is S voice, which is better at communicating and controlling the phone directly. And there is Google Now, which blows Siri out of the water in functionality and accuracy. Once you start using Google Now, you will learn to hate Siri. And since Android is developed by Google, you will find that Google services are far better integrated into the Android eco system when compared to iPhones.
And for messaging, there are hangouts and many choices for keyboards available for texting. You will also get text to swipe on the S5. Which allows you to text without having to always tap the keys.
iPhones are great simple smartphones. But then again, they are simple devices that are geared toward a different audience of people who don't like many fancy features. The decision is yours. And in the end, both the iPhone and the S5 can surf the net and make phone calls. And both offer good cameras. Though the S5 offers a higher resolution, which is better if you like to crop images.
Hope this helps! ^_^
