Q. I have a Samsung Infuse 4G with a 3.5mm audio output jack on the top.
Usually I use that port to plug in my headphones and listen to music.
I want to know if I can turn my phone into a portable microphone.
I have tried plugging in a 3.5mm mic into my phone, but it does not record audio through the mic.
I'm guessing that's because the jack is only an audio output (output music, output sounds, but not input audio).
I'm thinking about purchasing this/these to be able to use my phone as a better quality recorder:

:)
Do you think this will work? Is there a way to be able to input audio through my 3.5mm jack?
I will be using the mic to record interviews. Though I would prefer for the mic to be something simple and discrete, I would be willing to use anything so long as it gives decent to excellent audio quality.
Thanks in advance for your responses :)
A. although this discussion is for a different phone I believe it will work for you too:

Apple iPhone 4 or Motorola Atrix 4G?
Q. I currently have the iPhone 3Gs using 4.3.2. I want an iPhone 4, but I can't help but notice the Atrix 4G. I love the iPhone because of how simple and powerful it is, but I'm good with computers and hacking stuff and the Atrix would be perfect in lines of customization. iOS is not very customizable at all, while the Atrix is. I think I am somewhat of an Apple fan boy. Their store is close to us so it's easy for me to get excellent customer service--very nice! But the Atrix has THE best specs for AT&T phones and I really would like it BUT what would there be on the iPhone that I'd miss? Also, iPhone 5? My upgrade is three days before my birthday, July 26, perfect timing. Help me out with comparing iOS with Android on the Atrix. Voice commands for music and dialing? Remote buttons on headphones? Camera quality? GUI lags? Battery? Memory? App availability? Just help me out here. I want the best for my money. Also, my iPhone has installous--all apps for free. Is there something similar for Android? Can I get free tethering on Atrix? Thanks a million!
A. Thats a lot of questions...
Lets see...
-iPhone 5 has no release date yet, since they FINALLY released the iPhone 4 in White
-iOS is actually customizable... I can basically change anything I want in there ( JB phone of course) and edit plist files. and UISounds to whatever I want. Slightly harder then Android OS but not too bad overall.
-I think 2.2/2.3 has something Similar to Voice Control
-headphones should have a jack and microphone
-Camera quality is better on the iPhone in lighter areas compared to the Droid where in lower light at least in my opinion is better
-Every phone lags, maybe the iPhone sometimes more since of our multitasking and gestures now, making things seem more "Pretty"
-Memory is going to be better on the Droids the iPhone only has 512, while most droids are coming out with a gig or so
-Apps are still better on the iPhone but, but the Android market is growing
-battery all depends on the user the iPhone 4 only has a 1420, mah, while some droids go has high as the 1900s
-I think if you root your device they have something like that, but not positive
-I heard droids have an application for tethering like our pDAnet and MyWi
Also I would keep a look out for the Samsung Galaxy S2... its suppose to come to AT&T we just got to sit and wait for their conference on the 24th of may
for for now Atrix> iPhone 4
Confused on what will work for me - will a tablet work as well as a laptop for my purposes?
Q. Hi - I will be away for months this summer for business purposes, and I will be staying in a lodge with free wifi. I do not own a laptop, and I think it's a bit of a waste of money to buy something when I am only going to use it for a few months...I was thinking of buying a tablet since they are a little less expensive than a laptop. This is what I will need:
The vast majority of the time I will be using the tablet for internet. I want to be able to use facebook, youtube, and twitter - I want to be able to upload pictures to facebook, upload pictures from my camera onto the tablet (right now my camera is a fujifilm and uses and "XD" card - it's not a mini SD card or a regular SD card - I usually use a USB cable to transfer pics to my current PC), upload videos, possibly use skype/webchat, hopefully a microphone jack (I'm a musician - would like to use it to record), a headphone jack, hopefully USB port, use it for email (outlook express and yahoo mail), and be able to work on my website (web hosting, analytics, etc.), and listen to music (itunes).
I'm sure any tablet are facebook, youtube, and twitter friendly. I'm mostly concerned with uploading pictures and using a program to edit them (like picasa3). I also never used something without a keyboard and mouse, so if I can buy a wireless keyboard/mouse that will work that will be good. I would also like to watch movies, though I don't think any tablets support dvds or cds right now - at least using something like hulu will work for now.
Is it a bad idea to buy a tablet to use for internet purposes for a few months? I do not have a smart phone, and I want to be able to share pictures/videos all summer. I would rather not spend more than $250, so I think a laptop is out of the question (and so is the ipad).
My question really is which tablet will work for my purposes (I'm thinking a Galaxy..but I do not know much about them besides trying to figure them out at a store). Also, do we have to pay for apps, or do we just go to the "app store" and pick out the ones we want? I know they have apps for youtube, twitter, etc. but do we really need to install them when we can just use the wifi to go to the actual website?
Thanks for the help.
A. I'm sorry didn't follow up on the question kind of bad at that, but a samsung galaxy is very easy to work with , even i had to read up on the instructions a lot of functions was new to me , yes can disable the 3/4g function and go wifi and pick up a hot spot and go to the internet , at the google play store , it would mention want apps are free and the paid ones the free ones are good but with advertisements , good ones are Vlingo, picasa tool, fishbowl, look out security, google apps ,, avia media player all free, youtube and kindle comes with most tablets and so does some google apps besides it's their os , facebook is also install on some tablets , samsung galaxy or a asus tranformer prime this comes with the keyboard , sorry , i own a samsung tablet love it test out the asus tablet just out of my budget, good luck on choice and email me if any questions on the samsung tablet if that what you pick.
