Q. I was searching the other day for a new Smart Phone and I want and need something with a bigger screen (Bad eyes) and stumbled across the Samsung Galaxy TAB but it appears they do not let you simply make phone calls unless over VOiP but the European models do. I dont mind holding a 7" screen to my face to talk on the phone. Anyone already done this?
A. Europe uses GSM technology (like AT&T, T-mobile), while Verizon uses CDMA, which doesn't use a sim card like the GSM technology. You could not use a European Galaxy tab on Verizon, but there is a chance that you could modify it to work on one of the GSM networks. (no guarentees though). You will probably have to do a lot of searching in the android tablet forums for help finding out if this is possible. Also, the European ones cost up to twice as much as here, although hopefully the price will start to go down as the newer android os is introduced and more tablets come out. Personally, I wish they had left the calling intact here in the US too.
Is it possible to connect a Samsung Galaxy S II Phone to Virgin mobile or Boost Mobile.?
Q. Is it possible to connect a Samsung Galaxy S II Phone to Virgin mobile or Boost Mobile. If yes how like I know the phone has to be unlocked with a good ESN but could some confirm and reassure me before doing something like this I'm planing on buying this expensive phone since I liked it so much but don't want to a two year contract and a high monthly payment.
A. If you're planning to use the phone on Virgin or Boost, you should get the CDMA version. And if you plan to use the phone on SimpleMobile or StraightTalk, you should get the GSM version. If you want to get Samsung Galaxy S II without contract cheaper and get it flashed to Virgin / Boost, you can mail me to manchurianp@yahoo.com
What's the best prepaid mobile phone plan to use in the UK?
Q. I'm traveling to London and Paris later this month and want to use my gsm Samsung Galaxy Nexus (purchased in the USA) while I'm there. since its a Nexus, it's already sim-unlocked. My question, specifically, is which carriers will be compatible with the radios that my Nexus uses? And which carriers offer the best prices and packages for service for overseas visitors like myself?
A. Giffgaff.
For £12 you get free texts, free internet and 250 minutes, better than any other provider. So you can surf the net etc on your Nexus.
For overseas calls Vodafone is probably best. Might be worth checking the call costs. They do a 'Passport' they add on your account (for free) and this entitles you to great rates overseas.
Most corner shops sell all types of sim cards. My local post office does.
