A. No. If you root the phone, you have installed your own custom modified operating system. That is why when you root the phone, they also include an original operating system file, so you can re-install it to the original condition if all else fails.

A. On the status bar at the top of Android phone screens, you will see either a "G" (for GPRS), "E" (for EDGE/2G), "3G" (for 3G) or "H" (for HSPA, if your phone supports and indicates this). These are indicators for a network connection with your carrier.
If you have wi-fi turned on (and it MUST be turned on to use it), and you have a connection to a router or hotspot, you'll see an icon that has a round dot at the bottom with curved bars radiating from it. The more white bars, the stronger the wi-fi signal.
If you have wi-fi on and you're connected to a router, the phone will use the wi-fi connection. If you go out of range, it will switch to carrier data.
