Q. I am going to study in Grad school this coming fall, so I really want to get a windows slate for taking note in school. I tried Ipad and Samsung galaxy tab, but so far Microsoft's onenote have given me the best functions that I need. So I am thinking the Fujitsu stylistic Q550. However, I really want the finger friendly windows 8 too. So does anyone know I can put windows 8 in the Fujitsu stylistic Q550 later? Or I have to wait for a future slate which will come with windows 8 pre installed?
Thank you very much
A. I am looking to buy the Q550 too and have been doing some research on this. Seems it is quite good for onenote, free hand writing/note taking, sketching but not so good if you want to watch videos. Also appears that the processor is underpowered for windows 7 and you might need to tweak, adjust, calibrate etc, to get it going well. I have found some excellent discussions about the pros and cons of this device at - tabletpcreview.com and robbushway.com. Make sure you follow all the comments if you want to be well informed.
There is another tablet running windows 7 -Motion Computing's CL900 which has just been up for sale and getting good reviews from new owners. Disadvantage is it is >$300 more expensive than the Q550 which you can pick up for under $950 for the 62GB tablet (the cheaper 30GB Q550 at $830 is not good enough as Windows 7 apparently takes up a huge chunk of the HD).
HP's touchpad is coming out next week and runs on their own operating system..not sure if it will do all you want but their previous product 'Slate' is well-regarded by users.
About windows 8 I doubt anyone can give you sensible answers given that no details have been released about backward compatibility. Wouldbe wise to assume it would not be compatible with current tablets.
Looking for a Touch Tablet preferably 10 inches?
Q. I need a tablet for note taking and I am looking for a multitouch tablet that is similar to the ipad. Im thinking of something 10 inches, multitouch, camera and usb that supports stylus well and also doesnt lag. I really like the Blackberry Playbook coming up but 7 inch seems a bit too small for my liking. The Samsung Galaxy also seems a bit too small. I have been doing som research, so far, the hanvon b10 seems the beastiest but I live in Canada so I'd have to get this by mail from asia and its pretty costly for just a 10in tablet. Does anyone know any touch tablets that may suit note taking?
A. Have you checked out the HP Slate 500? It's not quite as powerful as a regular laptop but it's more powerful than most tablets. I might have given this a try if it was available when I was looking for a small portable.

I use an HP tx2z as my main laptop and like it's convertible Tablet PC functions but there are times where I just want to get on right away and still be very mobile. I tried using an iPad and a netvertible (touchscreen netbook) and wasn't very happy. Taking meeting notes on an iPad was a fail and the touch netbooks were too slow. My end solution was a 10" netbook (ASUS 1018P) with a Wacom Bamboo Pen & Touch Tablet using Microsoft OneNote. I wouldn't use it as my main computer but for cheap portability and handwriting capability it worked well as a companion to my desktop and tablet pc.
