Q. Hi all, I have been searching and
searching but cant find any conclusive
evidence to put my mind at rest.
I have a samsung galaxy y and it fits nicely
inside a flip case, held closed with a
magnet. I am no scientist but a good
friend of mine, who is a scientist,
seems to think that a magnet could
damage the phone!
I have heard that they can mess with
the internal compas (i didnt even
know i had one until yesterday) but
what about the motor in the lens, will
this be damaged being an electro
magnetic motor?
I am most worried about the screen
being effected by a magnetic field
always being near (even on) it.
Has anyone had any experience about it? shall i use that cover or throw it?

A. Magnets, especially permanent magnets aren't much powerful to cause any damage to the phone.
Only powerful electro-magnets of industrial scale, cause the cells of a hard-disk to be "wiped-out", because hard-disks are magnet based data-saving devices.
That magnetic case, won't damage your phone. The magnetic case will never disrupt your display, or any other part.
By answering this question you agree not to take the idea elsewhere and use it, I just need public opinion?
Q. Okay, so my invention is a case for a variety of smart phones, it will be a leather case which has springs in a hinge, to hold it you just flip the top over the back, and the spring wont feel tough on your hand, but if you drop it or as soon as you let go the flap will flip over, the case will look like this----------

There for if you drop it none of the phone will touch the ground, as soon as you let go it will fly shut, so by the time it hits the floor it will be completely safe and closed,

A. So you're on a site there are thousands of non-experts, non-lawyers, describing an invention. Your comment where the question is supposed to go wouldn't protect you. Do you think that's smart. Did it occur to you to check out a site like Legalzoom where there might be a lawyer you can talk to about this... for free!? I work for 2 patent attorneys, and I can tell you that without a doubt, although it's unlikely there'd be much hope for your idea, that making an invention idea public without even applying for a patent... is NOT smart!
I will say that even closed phones that are dropped on the ground... DO break. Sometimes a cover will protect it, but generally the covers are made to keep the phone from getting scratches and dents, and maybe some drop/shock protection.
Samsung galaxy s3 or iPhone 5?
Q. So my mom is going to but me a new phone for my 18th birthday and I'm not sure which one to choose, HELP!(: and why?
A. I can't say anything about the iPhone 5, but about a month ago I upgraded from a Samsung Epic 4g to an iPhone 4s and after only 3 days realized that I disliked the small screen size and missed the ability to customize my home screens. So I traded it in for the Samsung Galaxy S3. For the size of a phone (the largest screen size possible before being considered a small tablet, 4.8 inches) it is extremely light weight. It's not just plastic, it's a durable polycarbonate back and gorilla glass screen. It has a removable battery. I've gotten more than 48 hours from the battery with light use (texting, a little web browsing), and about 24 hours with HEAVY use. The screen is very nice, maybe not as nice as the retina displays from Apple, but still full HD. It's all of the features that Samsung has packed into this phone though that make it worth the money. They really went all out to make this phone easy and fun to use. For instance, if you're texting someone but decide you would rather call them instead, all you have to do is lift the phone up to your ear. If you've got music playing but need to mute it quickly, just cover the screen with your hand or flip it over on the table. It also has technology to recognize if you are looking at the screen or not, so it won't go black when you are still looking at it. All around, I love this phone.
