Q. So, my upgrade is due, and I am really, really stuck on whether to get the iPhone 4 or the Samsung Galaxy S 2. I have an ipod docking station so the iPhone would be ideal for that! But the galaxy is more modern looking slightly. And the camera is better am I right? But what would be ideal for internet browsing, applications, and ease of use etc... I do love the iphone and am sticking with it for now but another thing that puts me off is that its not the latest iPhone!!!!! Please respond to as many of my problems as possible! Thanks
A. I got my iPhone 4 as an iPod replacement that just so happened to be the same time as my upgrade, so in essence I got an iPod Touch for a fraction of the price that worked with all of my existing iPod accessories and could use all of my iTunes music. The phone part was just a bonus.
The S 2 is much more powerful, faster (on 4G) and is Android so if you want to customize or want the Android apps. It doesn't run the latest Android software now that the Galaxy Nexus with Ice Cream Sandwich is out, while the iPhone 4 got iOS 5 the same time as the 4S got it. It also has a bigger (though lower resolution) screen and is AMOLED so it renders colours better.
Also, don't just look a megapixels when looking at camera specs. High megapixels (over 5) is pretty much just for enlargements. The smaller pixels of an 8MP aren't as sensitive to light, so their pictures can be more noisy. Check websites to see the photo quality--the iPhone 4 5MP camera is pretty hard to beat... I leave my Nikon DSLR at home because of it.
The best would be to see if you can try each one and see what you like the best. They are both great phones.
Which is better; a Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1" or a Samsung Series 7 Slate 11.6" with Windows 7?
Q. I've been thinking of getting the tab lately, what with everyone getting tablets, and i had my mind set on Samsung galaxy tab 10.1, and so i studied its specs on all those websites,
and there i found the sites mentioning the Samsung series 7 slate, i was mesmerized, it was a little PC in a tab, it had all the benefits of the agility of a tablet design, slick, light, portable, touch screen, two cams, and sim card slot, only with more appealing specs (to me) :USB port, SD card reader, powerful processor (i5), a bluetooth keyboard, digitized screen with a stylus, and a docking station.
My friend thinks that because i praise the slate so much that i already made up my mind, and it may sound like i already have but i'm torn..
I don't care about the price difference, my only concern is the user interface, and whether i will miss out on the galaxy tab fun way of operating, and the awesome store with thousands of cool apps, coz the slate is a PC in the end, i'm afraid it's gonna be dull, i'm not sure whether the slate has a store like that....
plus i'm not sure if using the slate is gonna be practical and whether i'd feel held down by its accessories (stylus, keyboard, docking station)... after all, its the feeling of freedom that lured me into the tablets world in the first place (you don't have to be tied down to a desk or a table) plus the fun experience created by the ipad-like user interface
Please help me make my decision quickly coz i cant wait to get a tablet and join the rest of the world !!!
A. To make it short, the tablet is for play and internet use, and the other one is a laptop.
Basically, if you are using it to go and check your email, the tablet will be better. If you want to play games or travel a lot, get the tablet.
If you type word documents or type a lot, the netbook is better. Also, the Samsung Galaxy Tab does not have a USB Port, which is a problem for some. Also the SD slots is good if you are using it as a main computer.
To bring it all to an end, if you already own a Computer, then the Tablet is for you. If not, get the netbook.

Q. I'm going to try to be as detailed as possible here so keep with me:
I'm a graduate student in electrical engineering (my undergrad was in computer engineering and computer science) I make a living designing and debugging embedded microprocessor systems - so I am VERY well versed in the microprocessor world, but I have fallen behind the times when it comes to the most updated phones.
I am currently looking to get a new phone (I have had 2 android phones and have played with rooting both of them) I currently have the Samsung Galaxy S Epic (Sprint) *NOTE: I really like the fact that my phone has a hard-keyboard* But the issue is that my phone just isn't very responsive compared to others I have seen, my GF has an iPhone 4 for ATT and I fairly consistently find myself cursing at my phone and using her's if we are travelling and need to find something quickly.
But the next big question is what phone to get, I have toyed around with the idea of an iPhone 4S - which I would jail-break probably the same day I get it, but the problem is there are a lot of things that I need to do on occasion that the iPhone doesn't support very well (one time I needed to SSH into my server at my office to turn in an assignment, it would have been a huge pain to do on an iPhone based on the free apps I found - whereas with android I found an awesome free SSH program to use right away)
So the running theme here is I want to be able to root and customize my phone, whatever it ends up being. The other thing I noticed is that HTC (and maybe Samsung?) has released tools to allow customization of their phones (http://htcdev.com/). I really like the Samsung interface over the HTC so can anyone comment on developing for HTC vs. Samsung? Or I know the Nexus phones where kind of popular for a while, are those worth looking into?
To wrap up:
-Sprint contract up around thanksgiving
-Plan on switching to ATT
-Would like to stick with android as I am very familiar with it and I use google services VERY extensively (calendar/contacts/music/docs/etc..)
-Partial to Samsung's interface over HTC
-Hard-keyboard would be a huge plus but not essential
-Going to root the phone no mater what it is
-Occasionally need to have weird programs like VPN/SSH/SVN available, free and natively supported would be nice
-Battery power would be a huge plus, my phone currently lasts ~15 hours whereas my GF's iPhone 4 easily doubles that
-Ease of customization of the firmware/UI
-Long term support from the hacking community
-Possible use of phone with a docking station to turn it into more of a laptop would be a huge plus

I took a class for embedded systems and was super interested in it, we worked with MCU/FPGA combo boards. I was a software engineer at the time, but decided to quit and take a coop at a local military embedded computing company where I kind of fell into a firmware engineering position. For them I developed uboot and EFI bootloaders. I also picked up a side project with a professor - we became friends and when he went on sabbatical to start a company he asked me to join. Becoming friends with a professor was the best thing that ever happened to me by far, without that experience and his recommendations I would have never gotten where I am. The startup ended up falling through (contracts with the Indian gov't are difficult to deal with... haha...). Then after I graduated undergrad that professor asked me to come back and do research for him while getting paid and having my school pay for a masters.
Overall I would say doing side projects are great
A. I know you said you want ATT, But the Verizon Droid 4 will fit your bill precisely. The droid 4 is basically a Droid RAZR with a slide out keyboard. Look into it at least. I think you will be impressed :)
