Getting off family plan to individual on ATT?
Q. I'm moving in a couple months and I'm getting off my family's plan at ATT. I was wondering how much it was to switch over to an individual plan or how that works. I have a phone i want to switch over, a samsung galaxy s3. Also, I don't have any credit. I'm 19. Like how much do you think would the deposit cost if there is going to be one? any fees?
A. Your history with AT&T will not be taken into account. The only one that has a history with AT&T is the primary account holder. When it comes down to it, he/she is the one that is ultimately responsible for the bill being paid.
You'll have to pay an activation fee (around $35) and first billing cycle's costs (plus a few other fes, most likely... been so long since a new account, can't remember exactly). You should have the option to sign up without a contract since you're brining your new phone.
Even if paying month-to-month, your credit history comes into play (they don't know if you're gonna rack up $500 in charges and then disappear). If you have other sources of good credit, like a student/parent-backed credit card, etc., you probably won't pay much (if anything) for a security deposit. If you have no credit history, it's cost more, but it's hard to say because it's usually based on the phone being purchased. I'd wager $300 or so because you're not getting a new phone.
