Q. I have several Kindle books on my PC , can I transfer them to my new Kindle without using Amazon Whispernet service?

A. To connect Kindle to your computer:
Plug the larger end of the USB cable into an available USB port or a powered USB hub connected to your computer.
Connect the other end of the USB cable to the micro-USB port on the bottom of your Kindle.
When connected to your PC, your Kindle will go into USB drive mode and its battery will be recharged by the computer. Your Whispernet service is temporarily shut off and you will not receive any of your subscriptions while in this mode. Also, your Kindle is not usable as a reading device while you are in USB drive mode, but will return right to where you were when you undock the device from your computer.
What is the difference between ebooks, epub, and kindle books?

Anyways, Kindle supports PDF so you can side load books however it doesn't support ePub format that is the universal format most used in the world (thus most of free ebooks out there - including in other languages - are in ePub format.) Nook devices support ePub and are also technically much better eReaders. E-Ink Nook Simple Touch from Barnes & Noble at $99 (without ads) has twice the battery life of Kindle ($139 without ads), faster page turns than Kindle, and microSD card slot to expand capacity that neither Kindle has. With Nook you can checkout eBooks from public libraries - just need to get Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) software (free from Adobe site). Also it's worth mentioning that if you walk in with any Nook to Barnes & Noble store, you'll get tech support and youâre allowed to read ANY available eBook for free while in the store via free provided in the store Wi-Fi where Nook eBook store has over 2.5 million of paid books and about the same number of free public domain books. Nook already has Cloud as your ebooks are stored in your online library as well as downloaded to your device. Nook Simple Touch actually has a hidden web browser - just press the virtual "Search" button at the bottom of your Nook's screen and key a URL into the search bar when it comes up. That's not just my opinion - Consumer Reports, CNET, PCWORLD, etc. pro reviews and recommendations stated that Nook Simple Touch is the best ereader on the market.

A. A lot of the best free recent books are free only temporarily, so the thing to do is find a good website that advertises these - I use Kindle Buffet (address below). There are generally one or two teen books every day. Today (Tuesday) for example there is "The Rock Star's Daughter". I think "Clockwise" by Elle Strauss and "The Mind Readers" by Lori Brighton are also still free today. I've enjoyed all these. The only problem is that you generally have to resign yourself to reading only the first book of a series!
You can also go to Amazon and type "free Kindle books for teens" into the search bar. Sift carefully, though.
Another really good resource is Project Gutenberg. There are teen girl books from early last century by Jean Webster, L. M. Montgomery, Louisa M. Alcott, Mildred Wirt (who wrote the early Nancy Drew books), Angela Brazil, Nell Speed, Josephine Chase/Pauline Lester, and others - as well as many of the great classics of literature.
