Q. I was so set on getting this phone, until I learned that amoled screens can get burn in, and because of this I'm debating whether I should get another type of phone. I'd need this phone to last for my full contract (2 years) and be completely usable. I know that the status bar at the top usually burns in and that seems inevitable and I read some tricks to reduce the risk and apps to hide the status bar
How likely is screen burn in? Do you have any tips to reduce the likelihood of screen burn in or opinions? I read that keeping the brightness on 50% all the time would help.
I would just use my phone mainly for texting and use the camera, no overnight bedside clock ridiculousness some people do where that causes problems with this type of screen
A. "How likely is screen burn in? Do you have any tips to reduce the likelihood of screen burn in or opinions? I read that keeping the brightness on 50% all the time would help."
From the very beginning, when I got my new GS3, I decided to always keep the brightness level ALL THE WAY DOWN (unless I'm in sunlight or something). Screen brightness is like sugar: How sweet is sweet enough depends on what amounts you're used to. Obviously, for someone, who is used to having the brightness cranked all the way up, bringing it all the way down will make the screen seem too pale. On the other hand, if you make your eyes accustomed to the LOWEST brightness level early on, you'll find that even THAT is plenty vibrant to your eyes and that anything above it is rather excessive and blinding. Aside from the obvious benefit of naturally extending battery life, this should also reduce/eliminate screen burn chances, if there are any. Speaking of which, having had my GS3 for many months, I could not confirm those screen burn rumors. I inspected the screen with solid black and solid white color image files under different angles and lighting conditions and was unable to find any burn patterns whatsoever. You see, most of the time the screen is on, you're either playing a game, or using some app. It's not like you're staring at the desktop/springboard, or other OS screens for hours. ;)
Oh, and may I add that this is one kick-ass phone with a beautiful 1280x720 screen. It's like someone used a shrink ray on an early HD TV set and put it in the palm of your hand :P
(Sorry, couldn't resist).
What are the pros and cons of the Samsung Vibrant (galaxy s)?
Q. I'm really thinking of getting either the Vibrant or mytouch 3g slide. I've already read a lot about both, but there isn't really a "pros and cons" list for the Vibrant. I know the biggest problem people have with the Vibrant is no flash, I could care less about the flash. What else do actual users love and hate about the Vibrant?
A. go with the vibrant
but heres a list
5MP camera-No flash
4" Super AMOLED screen- AWESOME screen but takes a toll on battery life
The way gmail syncs the contacts on the Vibrants sucks compared to any other android device it wants to sync and add every email address you have ever sent with gmail
GPS is pretty much close to worthless right but samsung said the fix will be coming next month
How to find phone cases for Samsung Galaxy? (Not S2 or S3, the first one)?
Q. I'm getting a Samsung Galaxy given to me (as stated, the first one, not the 2 or 3), and I want to find a cute case for it, but whenever I look up "Samsung Galaxy cases," it shows me cases for the S3s constantly. Any suggestions?
A. Try your specific model name or number, for example i9000, or Samsung Captivate, or Samsung Fascinate, or Samsung Vibrant, or Samsung Epic 4G. You can find your model number under the battery of the phone.
