Q. I'm saving up for and iPad 2 which costs $499 but I was surprised at Target yesterday when I found that the Kindle Fire is only $199! The original iPad is also a lot cheaper than the iPad 2. I need a tablet for school work (making presentations, typing reports, doing research etc.) I also need something that I can have fun with (watching movies, making movies in iMovie, photo booth, reading magazines and books, Facebook, etc.) I am also flying to Ireland this summer and I want a tablet that can entertain me for the long flight. I currently have about $350 saved for my tablet. Which do you recomend given the circumstances?
A. Hi Carly, iPad's got larger screen and much more apps but it's also much heavier, less portable, and more expensive while also iPad 1 is slower as it has a single-core CPU and 512 MB of RAM while Nook Tablet has dual-core CPU and 1.0 GB RAM. iPad 2 is better but twice as expensive and heavy. Kindle Fire is neither a tablet (too underpowered and lacks features) nor eReader (LCD screen and poor battery life.) It is rather a $200 device for shopping on Amazon web site. Take a look at recently released Nook Tablet (that is Nook Color 2) - it's been getting rave reviews and it is the best device in it's class - much better than Kindle Fire. It's got Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, Angry Brids, etc., the best battery life (30% better than Fire), the best non-glare laminated screen (no lamination on very reflective Fire screen), double the RAM and space for apps/photos/movies than on Fire, microSD slot, a microphone for Skype, and physical volume controls on the side (neither is on Kindle Fire), very smooth video playback with excellent screen, and very fast apps load.
Known issues with Kindle Fire are that it runs hot to touch, video playback is jerky, touch screen is not responsive and it takes 2-3 touches to register, power button placement is very poor and is prone to accidental power off, all the hype of Silk browser is not true where the browsing is actually slower than on other Android tablets, Wi-Fi connection gives a lot of trouble to users on it, etc.
What is the best ipad or tablets ?
Q. so i want a tablet or ipad and i have had a look but i dont no whats better than what :/ they said that the ipad 4th genaration is the newest but the 3rd generation has an LED display but the 4th generation doesnt :/ i need help to choose the best tablet or ipad going !
A. The third generation iPad does not have an LED display, nor does the fourth generation. Both have LCD IPS displays. Overall, the iPad is pretty much the best tablet out there, hands down. If you're okay with paying the higher price ($499 for the lower-end model) for the iPad with Retina Display (a.k.a iPad 4), then go for it. If not, but you still want an iPad, the iPad Mini is a good choice, however doesn't have nearly as good a screen or performance than the larger iPad. Also, the Nexus 7 ($199) is a great Android tablet, but is getting a bit dated nowadays. The Nexus 10 is a bit newer, but more expensive. Between the two Nexus tablets, I'd say go for the 7. It really just comes down to if you want iOS or Android. The Microsoft Surface sucks. If you have an iPhone, iPod Touch, or Mac (or plan on getting one), I'd recommend going with the iPad, so you can use iCloud to sync your contacts, calendars, photos, etc.
why ipad mini does't use retina LCD?
Q.
A. They're saving that as a selling point for the iPad Mini 2.
