Q. Recently, I have been using my macbook pro for reading ebooks for school and I love it because ebooks are inexpensive and textbooks weigh my backpack down (a LOT). But, my laptop is not the lightest thing in the world and I have been drawn to the iPad mini for it is very lightweight and portable.
I am leaning towards buying an iPad mini for the purpose of reading my ebooks for school (which would be pdf files) and maybe even using it to do some word processing on-the-go. Some questions that I have:
1. Will the standard 16 GB iPad mini be enough to store all of my ebook files? (each ebook being around 1600 pages.... *organic chemistry blues*)
2. I love to add notes and highlight things within the ebook, can I do this on an iPad mini?
2. Should I wait for a newer model of the iPad mini to come out?
3. If the iPad mini is not ideal for school purposes, are there any (inexpensive) tablets that you recommend?
Any other info is highly appreciated as I am seriously looking into this topic and would like to invest in a tablet soon!
A. The iPad mini is a perfect companion for school! With iBooks on the iPad mini, you can purchase and store eBooks and MANY textbooks from iTunes U. With iBooks you can add notes, bookmarks, and highlights that will sync across the cloud.
Since iBooks works flawlessly with iCloud, you'll have all your information everywhere. When iBooks is available for Macs this Fall, any books along with highlights or notes will sync directly to your MacBook Pro over the air!
The iPad mini also has over 900,000 applications on the app store! Many other popular eBook readers on the iPad mini are Kindle from Amazon and NOOK from Barnes & Nobles!
A newer version of the iPad mini isn't expected to be released until early next year, so now's a perfect time to purchase your iPad mini for school! 16GB is enough space for whatever you need!
IPod Touch or iPad mini?
Q. I own a third generation iPod touch and I just LOVE it. It changed my life drastically. But now, it's old and obsolete, and hence, I plan to upgrade. But the lineup has changed and the iPod touch isn't the only thing in store. There's the iPad mini. I'm not sure which to choose.
I use my iPod touch as my primary device for Facebook, browsing, gaming and music. Which is a better device for my needs? I'm quite accustomed to the small size of my iPod but don't mind choosing a bigger device too. And on the inside, the iPad mini and the iPod touch have the same processor, RAM too. But I've heard the iPad mini has a bad screen. Will Apple launch a second gen iPad mini by the time I'm ready to upgrade? Or should I go for the iPod?
A. Defnitely not the iPad Mini! That thing is a waste of money. If youre in the market for an iPad, get the iPad 2, which costs about 70 dollars more than the mini, at about the same specs. The Mini has a horrible screen. Plus, the Itouch 5th gen only has about the same specs as the 4S. If it were me, I'd stick with the 3rd gen touch just for portable games/music (you're not missing out on much with iOS 6) and get a Nexus 7, which is $130 less than the iPad Mini. I know you're probably asking this question as a dedicated Apple fan, but hear me out. The N7 has a quad-core processor and is slightly smaller than the mini. It also has a better resolution screen, and feels better in the palm(s) of your hand(s). At least try it out, they have demo units at Office Max and Staples, and I fell in love with it the first time i used it.
Either way, do NOT get the mini. if you want a new iOS device, get the Touch. As far as a tablet goes, I would never reccomend the Mini. Either go for the Nexus if youre looking for a small, inexpensive device, or go all out on the iPad 2/3/4.
Ipad3 vs ipad mini-which should I get?
Q. I was wondering which should I get? The ipad mini or the ipad 4? I know the retina feature is on the 4, but honestly with the cost of using a hotspot to download movies, I imagine this person will stay with blu rays. I do like the lower price and the features being similar.
This person will use it for:
Online shopping
YouTube
Minimal games like scrabble
Internet browsing
Remote Desktop (doing some work through the go to my pc program)
Which would be best? Is the $180 difference worth it?
A. the ipad mini is mostly for playing a simple game or two, watching youtube, netflix, browsing, etc... the ipad mini is really not as good to remote desktop and online shopping as the ipad 3, so here is the catch, i would say the ipad mini is better because it lists 3/5 on your list, and its more portable, but if you think online shopping and desktop remoting is more important then youtube, games and browser then you should buy the ipad 3
