A. Samsung.
Samsung 5.0 Hardware pros:
--replaceable battery (Apple charges $70 USD + shipping to replace battery)
--expandable memory via microSD slot; supports up to 32GB on top of base model's 8GB. (Apple tells you to buy a new iPod if you want more memory.)
--GPS (combined with offline maps, you have yourself a functioning GPS for trips)
--FM radio tuner (What good is wifi if you can't find a hotspot? Nice to have FM radio as an option)
--Better camera
--Camera flash (Note that Samsung 4.0 does not have a flash)
--More buttons (If Apple built elevators, they would only have one button too)
Samsung 5.0 Hardware cons:
--screen resolution less than iPod Touch 4 (Samsung 4.0 model has better but smaller screen)
--white plastic back seems cheap compared to the iPod sleek and shiny metal back.
Samsung 5.0 Software pros:
--you can buy your android apps from anywhere
--you can play around with writing your own android apps and load them onto your device for free.
(Apple charges you $99 USD/year to do the same thing on your own device. Only benefit of fee is that it also allows you to upload your app to Apple's app store.)
--plays virtually every video and audio codec out of the box. No cumbersome converting of music/video to a specific format. (Apple requires you to use iTunes. If iTunes does not like your content for whatever reason, it will not allow it to be transferred to your iPod).
Samsung 5.0 Software cons:
--Not as many android app choices as Apple app store, although that is rapidly changing.
--you will have to do more research an android apps to be sure of safety and quality.
Apple's draconian vetting does tend to improve the quality and saferty of apps in its IOS app
store.
Note: I own an iPod Touch 4 and love it. However, it does have problems (as mentioned above). As great as Apple's products are, Apple's intentional profit-centered hamstringing of the iPod (sealed battery and memory, restrictive formats (Apple's way or the highway), no FM tuner (Makes them no money, so they won't give it to you), lack of direct drag and drop content management (keeps content companies happy), etc.) try my patience and tend to sour my consumer experience. If Samsung had a similarly mature hardware+content ecosystem in place, they would probably do exactly what Apple is doing. However, for now, Samsung's hardware and software tend to be more consumer value-friendly than Apple's.
