Samsung Galaxy s2 - mobile phone?
Q. hiya - i was wondering. when i go to the samsung app store and wand to download a game or an app of some sort i see these messages that say this app will prevent your phone from sleeping, modify usb storage, view and manage phone details and so on ... there is always a list of things that this and that app may do to your phone. what i want to know is if i download an app or game or whatever and these sorts of lists come up do i really have to be worried that may phone details may be tampered with and will any of these apps ruin my phone. i just cannot understand these types of information. should i be worried and not even bother to download anything for my phone. i hope that you can help me understand what is really going on here. many thanks
A. They're just permissions. Every app requires it to access certain things. For example, that "prevent your phone from sleeping" thing means that the app won't make your phone screen turn off when you're running the app to make it less annoying (imagine you're playing a game, but then you pause it and the screen turns off because you left it for a bit and then you have to unlock your phone again, just to resume).
There are also permissions like, "Access to internet" which means that it requires internet to do certain task (like show ads or obtain data from the internet to the app and etc.).
Keep in mind, there are some malicious apps out there that would tamper with your phone (read comments, ratings or permissions and etc. to stay safe). Use Android Market, not Samsung Apps since there isn't a lot of apps in there.
Should I buy a factory-unlocked galaxy S3 phone?
Q. I just recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S3 from t-mobile. Wholesale for about $550.
Apparently, all galaxy s3 phones can be unlocked fairly easily - which I hope to do if I ever switch carriers.
Considering that a factory unlocked galaxy galaxy S3 sells for about the same price as mine: is there any benefit to returning this phone and buying a factory unlocked galaxy S3? I have the added benefit of insurance by keeping the one I have, but considering they both phones cost about the same ( and that many people boast about benefits of an unlocked phone) wondering if i should bother with the switch.
Am I overseeing something? or are both phones one and the same?
A. the factory unlocked Galaxy S3 doesn't support T-Mobile's 3G/4G frequencies, so you would be limited to Edge (2g) speeds with this phone under T-Mobile. the only major wireless company this phone works properly with in the US is AT&T
