Does anyone have info if Samsung S5570 Galaxy Mini can be used in Japan?

I have read a report that a Japanese guy who purchased S5570 in Hong Kong succeeded to connect it to 3G network in Japan with SIM provided by Japanese network provider.
And SoftBank offers 3G rental-SIM card for visitors from abroad. It is available only at the airport.
Rental fee is JPY 105 / day and administration fee is JPY 315 / contract.
Please note that the card is mainly for voice calls and text messaging. There are some conditions to user internet service with the SIM card.
