A. I have the Samsung Galaxy 1. It's the older one, but I think the process would be very similar. First you have to root it. This gives you access to Superuser. Superuser is a special app that holds permissions to do certain things that your Service Carrier does not what you to have. You can enable non-market apps (sideloading), and from here you can flash. You need to use ClockWorkRecovery to flash things.
From here you need to download the ROM, or kernel, you want to flash. You put the file on the phone. You put it on the phone's memory, not an external SD card. This is very important.
