Replace my Kindle or buy a Kindle fire?

Q. I bought my husband while he was deployed a Kindle 3G wireless + WiFi e-reader. He loved it, but, when he came home, the screen busted during the trip. I called Amazon and of course, the Kindle is out of it's one year warranty. They offered to replace the Kindle for $85. I did research and noticed that the normal price of the identical Kindle was $135, I was happy to have learned how much money I could save. Until I noticed the latest and greatest Kindle Fire. Yes it IS more, but the color screen and the reviews attracted me to the item. Here is the dilemma; I planned on purchasing my husband an iPad 2 for Valentine's day, is the Kindle Fire simmilar to the iPad 2? I would only use the Kindle for book/magazine reading. Anyone have the Kindle Fire and love it, or should I just stick with my replacement??

A. Kindle fire can not replace iPad completely. But when it comes to the price... yes it is way better than getting the iPad since you get all the features which include:

- Above 15000 apps (recently checked the app store for kindle fire)
- Over 100 thousand movies on amazon while others on netflix
- tv shows of amazon plus hulu
- Over 1 million titles
- Color screen as you already know which is 7' and 169 PPI and 1024*600 resolution
- More than 1000's children illustrated books

But there are somethings that they did not feel necessary because they wanted the price to be this low.
- Camera: I dont find a camera useful in a tablet anyway you can use mobile for that and if you are thinking of skype than it can be done on your laptop at home.
- No microSD slot but you have 8Gb and the free amazon cloud to save up your files
- No microphone so you cant use it for skype.

From my bookmarks here you would be able to find a good review on the kindle fire vs iPad 2 that would help you out on this decision:

And from my research here you would be able to find the price for the kindle fire:

Kindle Fire HD vs Kindle Fire HDX?
Q. In a few weeks I'm going to buy a Kindle Fire, however I'm not quite sure which model I should buy. I will mainly use it for reading, watching movies/shows from Amazon Instant Video, light gaming, and general wed browsing/e-mail. I know that the HDX is the better of the two, but is also more expensive. Now money isn't an issue, but I don't want to pay more for the HDX if the HD will fit my needs.

Any help would be appreciated.

A. Kindle Fire HDX is the one with front facing HD camera and all better features like the quad core processor, 2Gb RAM, 1920*1200 HD display, Dual WiFi antenna etc. So you get the best of features in the lowest price possible. Whereas the Kindle Fire HD is the one with minimal amount of features, but enough to keep up with the standards of low-priced tablets. It would give you the same experience of Kindle Fire HDX but in a lower price with removal of few pricey features.

Detailed discussion on what is extra and what is missing on the Kindle Fire HD compared to HDX:

If you have a good budget, then I would surely recommend the Kindle Fire HDX as it comes with faster processor and other innerware is worth paying extra bucks for. Whereas if you are tight on budget and you just want a device to watch movies or surf web, then Kindle Fire HD does the job.

Hope this helped!

Original Question

Which is better a Nook or Kindle Fire?
Q. I'm trying to decide between and Nook color and a Kindle Fire, and would like to know which one is the better deal?

A. Kindle Fire ($199) vs Nook Color ($169)

Much of hardware of these two low-cost tablets is very similar: Both have 7-inch, backlit IPS LCD touch displays with 1024x600 resolutions; both have similar sizes and weights (15.8 oz for Kindle Fire vs 14.6 oz for Nook Color). Both have about 8 hours battery life. Neither have cameras of any sort.

Neither are ideal for long-run ereading as neither has an E Ink display; consider them both to be more tablet than ereader. Nook Color has been out a year and has a community of people into rooting the device. Kindle Fire is out November 15 and has an unclear rooting path. It will have a first-class apps store at Amazon, regardless.

Buy the Kindle Fire if you want a faster CPU: The Kindle Fire has a dual-core 1 GHz TI OMAP 4430; Nook Color has the older 0.8 GHz TI OMAP 3621.

Buy the Kindle Fire if web browsing is a priority to you. Amazon has leveraged their massive cloud computing structure to allow Kindle Fire to optimize the retrieval and presentation of web pages. For both storage and processing, Kindle Fire's new web browser, Silk, figures the most efficient way to present content to the user. If this proves to be as impressive in practice as it's sounding in the product description, it'll be the major factor in many users' decision between Kindle Fire and Nook Color.

Buy the Kindle Fire if you value easy access to movies. Also, when coupled with Amazon Prime ($79/year), the Kindle Fire can efficiently stream over 10,000 popular movies and TV shows for free.

Buy the Kindle Fire if you prefer to make online purchases from Amazon over Barnes & Noble; choose Amazon if you need to make international ebook purchases.

Buy the Nook Color if you prefer to buy online from Barnes & Nobel over Amazon, or if you value access to B&N's network of off-line, retail stores.

Buy the Nook Color if a microSD card is more important to you than Kindle Fire's ability to store unlimited amounts of Amazon digital content for free in the Amazon Cloud.

Is there a reason you're not also considering the newer Nook Tablet? It's color too.

Between the Kindle Fire ($199) and the Nook Tablet ($199|$249):

Displays are the same: 7-inch (1024x600) IPS LCD.
Processors are the same: Dual-core TI OMAP 4430 running at 1 GHz.
Neither have cameras, front or rear; neither have 3G; neither have Bluetooth.
Weights are similar: (0.91 lbs for Kindle Fire; 0.88 lbs for NOOK Tablet).

NOOK Tablet has advantages of optionally having double the memory for $50 more (16G vs 8G), double the RAM (1G vs 0.5G), and an SD port. Kindle has the advantage of having the new Silk web browser that leverages Amazon's massive computing and networking infrastructure to speed-up web browsing, and coming from a financially rock-solid company (Amazon). Be sure to also consider whether you prefer shopping at Amazon or Barnes & Noble online stores.
