Q. I'm starting graduate school in Social Work this month. During my undergraduate years, I would carry around my 6-pound laptop for taking notes in addition to textbooks. Don't ask how I did it...
Now I'm interested in getting a tablet for reading e-books, taking notes, audio recording lectures, and scheduling my time. As a plus, it would be great to access my email, browse the net, and watch videos while riding the bus for 1 hour & 30 minutes...
I'm considering the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 for those purposes, but I have a few questions...
1. Is it the best tablet for taking notes?
2. Is the keyboard you can buy just as functional as a laptop keyboard? Good for heavy note taking?
3. Can I sync or transfer my notes from the tablet to my laptop or vice versa? (I have Windows 7 and use Microsoft Office and PP the most).
4. Can it record audio for long lectures (3 hours)? Good quality audio playback?
5. Is the size practical for reading e-books?
6. From your experience, what is the battery life?
7. Is it worthwhile to get 4G wireless? How much do you pay monthly for that?
In the end, I'm not looking for something to completely replace my awesome 6-pound laptop. Just something to get the job done while I'm away from home.
If you have any other tablet or app recommendations, then please share your thoughts. Thanks!
4.5. If it can record audio, can you still multitask (like typing notes or switching apps) without disrupting it?
A. 1. Is it the best tablet for taking notes?
...Yes. With the S-Note and S-Pen it is definitely best and well optimized for taking notes
2. Is the keyboard you can buy just as functional as a laptop keyboard? Good for heavy note taking?
...Yes. You have the bluetooth keyboard and it is pretty good for typing
3. Can I sync or transfer my notes from the tablet to my laptop or vice versa? (I have Windows 7 and use Microsoft Office and PP the most).
...You can transfer files from Galaxy Note to computer by either plugging in USB cord or you can also transfer wireless through WiFi.
4. Can it record audio for long lectures (3 hours)? Good quality audio playback?
- If it can record audio, can you still multitask (like typing notes or switching apps) without disrupting it?
...Yes you can record depending on the storage you have left. And the Split screen function on Galaxy note allows you to run two processes even side-by-side on same screen
5. Is the size practical for reading e-books?
Yes. It is pretty good size to be frank
6. From your experience, what is the battery life?
Read these comments on Galaxy Note 10.1 from an actual user, would definitely help you out on this decision:

7. Is it worthwhile to get 4G wireless? How much do you pay monthly for that?
Payment depends on the package and the network provider. So it varies a lot. If your usage is outside home mostly. Then only I would recommend the 4G.
Hope this was helpful!
Is there a keyboard/case for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 that...?
Q. Is there a case for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 that is similar to the optional keyboard for the ASUS Transformer. im looking for a keyboard that just clips on to the tablet without needing a thick folio case. i dont care if it offers the features that the ASUS does(usb, battery, etc) just something that will quickly let me turn my tablet into a laptop for typing and i can close and put into a bag like a laptop.
heres a case that i really like but the company only makes it for ipad. I dont know if any of you have seen one like this for the Note 10.1 on the internet somewhere. i havent been able to yet.(hence me reaching out)

heres the keyboard attachment that ASUS makes for their tablet. Ideally i would like one like this but for the Note 10.1.

i know that samsung makes an official keyboard for the note 10.1. i like it except that it is not hinged. i know that there are folio cases that house the tablet and a keyboard. i just want something that is attached to the tablet itself and can close and open like a laptop.
sorry for repeating myself. im just trying to be clear. thanks in advance everyone!

How to change Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Firmware?
Q. I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 in China, it works just fine, although it came with some things in chinese (I don't speak chinese), like a newspaper app and dictionary.
I was wondering if somehow I could change the firmware (or something else) to an american or international one, with english dictionary and related.
Thanks,
A. I also bought my Galaxy Note 10.1 in China and I also have been interested in changing the firmware. I've tried to email Samsung in USA and they redirected me to Samsung China email, but they weren't helpful (maybe a language barrier since I don't speak Chinese). So no, I still don't think it can be done -- the USA Support didn't mention anything about updating to a "US" version.
I want to upgrade mostly because the Chinese version completely locks out all Google products, especially Google Play store. So all those apps advertised for the Note are not included -- nor downloadable! -- in the Chinese version.
