Unlocked AT&T Galaxy Note 2 on T-Mobile?

Q. Hi, I have an unlocked At&t Samsung Galaxy Note 2 on T-Mobile, and I noticed that as I travel around, my status bar jumps from 4g/4g lte to an "E" icon, which from what I understand is 2G speeds. I know that I'll never get 4g "all the time", but right now it's pretty 50/50. So my question is... if I purchased a new T-Mobile phone, would I get more consistant 4g speeds, and less of the "e" icon? I read that they use different bands, so that is why I ask. Thank you, and please explain your answer, as I am not all that familiar with icons and bands.

-------------- yes, correct.

Status symbols.... E means EDGE, 2G data. UMTS is 3G data, denoted by either a U or G on old phones, and 3G on a phone on modern phones. 4G comes in 2 forms. HSPA and LTE. HSPA, also known has fake 4G, uses 3G Technology to push a faster frequency "band". The old ITRU definition of a "g" change is when a company increases data speed 10x faster on newer technolgoy. Then in Spring 2011, ITRU changed their minds. Now only 10x faster speeds on same old technology classifies a "g" change... this is how in spring 2011, Sprint ATT and TMobile all magically became 4G overnight... seriously no joke... the new speed was called HSPA (high speed packet access). Before the definition change, HSPA was, before the change, called 3G+ or 3.5G or G+ on the phone. It then became 4G. Only Verizon stayed true to the old ITRU definition, which was faster speed on newer technology. Rather than investing in HSPA, they invested in this new Japanese technology called Long Term Evolution or LTE, which was 10X faster than HSPA and 100x faster than 3G. This is why, in 2013 now, Verizon is 95% 4G LTE, while Sprint and ATT and Tmobile is.. well.. pathetic... , still in the 30%s

the reason ATT/Straight Talk and any other GSM phone wont work consistently on Tmobile 3G and 4G HSPA is becuase of Tmobile itself. Not the phone. Tmobile 3G (and therefore 4G HSPA too from the above ITRU definition--remember, same technology just faster speed) uses frequency bands 2100 Mhz and 1700 Mhz ONLY.. just these 2 bands.. ATT and other GSM carriers of Planet earth are normally quad-band (4-band), using 850, 900, 1900, and 2100 MHz for 3G (and therefore 4G HSPA too).. Only tmobile is still, in 2013, still, omfg, still dual-band for 3G/4G HSPA... and why they suck and beggin for someone to buy them. Ok, anywho... Notice that only 2100Mhz match. ATT phones and GSM phones from other carriers do not have a 1700Mhz radio reciever. Only tmobile phones have that.

So.......... your 3G (and therefore 4G HSPA too) will be spotty depending on the tmobile cell tower in your area. Remember, a tmobile tower may give off 2100 Mhz AND 1700 MHZ or just 1700 or just 2100... if your in an area of a tower that only gives off 1700, then you are screwed.... you ill not have 4G HSPA... you will not have 3G... your phone will default to 2G... the big... fat... E....... LMAO!!! But, if your in an area where there is 2100 MHz, then you'll get 4G HSPA....

So..... if you get a true, honest to god, branded Tmobile phone... will you get constent 4g HSPA?
---------- YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

why????
--------- cause true Tmobile phones have BOTH the 2100 and 1700 radios... therefore, no matter what the tmobile tower gives off, you will have constent 4G HSPA.... the only time you wont get 4G HSPA is when you near a tower that doesnt give off 2100 or 1700... or your in an outage... or dead.. lmao
