Q. I bought a droid x off of craigslist, he said it was rooted. I know a little bit about rooting , but i want to unroot it then root it again. How do i do that? What are the advantages of rooting?
A. if you got this from craiglist... I HIGHLY SUGGEST you SBF you phone before using it personally... i dont trust idiots on Craiglist... a SBF is like a Factory Reset on crack... instead of wiping the phone of any info the previous user put on it, a SBF will remove the software completely and the re-install Verizon stock unrooted software onto it... thus given you a Droid X NEW out of the box!!!
see my facebook or tumblr page blog for SBF tools and downloads and steps...
Next... is your choice...
1) if you want Android 2.2 OS (Froyo)... then google search z4root, download to sdcard, install the app, and root your Dx that way...
2) if you want Android (Gingerbread) 2.3 OS... then continue to read my facebook notes ot tumblr page blog for further Gingerbread rooting instructions...
forgot to add the benefits of rooting... to combat those on here that "know nothing"...
1)remove ads on ALL apps.. (AdFree)
2) freeze or delete bloatware (Bloatfreezer) (bloatware is the stuff manufacturs and carriers put on your phone that you never use... like cityID!!!)
3) change notification bar style, looks, icons, etc (ninjamorph)
4) change boot animation and/or boot logo pic (metamorph)
5) install custom roms manually or by app, like (ROM Manager)
6) make back of ALL apps and THEIR settings...
7) access to the internal files of the phone
shoot... root is the true Google experience before Manufacturs and Carriers LOCK IT DOWN... remove the lock.. and the world is yours---given you know what your doing
good luck and hope to see you around!
Rooting my Android Phone?
Q. I have the galaxy s 3 and i was wondering a couple things. 1st is can i root my phone? 2nd is if i root my phone im voiding the warranty but if i reset it or something like that can i take root off and it be like i never even root it or whatever its called? 3rd if i can restart my device to remove root can i still get my data back from before i had root? im fairly new to androids so very thorough answer or ill be loss for sure. thanks for the help!
oh and if you think i should root my phone what do you recommend i should use to root it i don't want to mess it up at all and ive herd if you do it wrong you could screw up the entire phone
A. 1) Yes, the Galaxy S III can be rooted for sure either through ODIN. There are also 1 click root programs that are available for certain variants of the Galaxy S III (Verizon GS3 is an example of this).
2) Yes, you're voiding your warranty, but you can unroot through a more complex procedure by using the ODIN program and installing the stock factory image and stock firmware that can be found in XDA-Developers or Rootzwiki for the respective version of the Galaxy S III.
3) If you decide to root your phone, then you can keep the information for the most part, but if you want to unroot it, then you're going to have to lose all the data from before. So make sure to back up your information by copying the files into another location and you're good. Once you're back to stock, then just copy and paste the files from the other location back into the phone's internal storage and you're good.
As for the extra question, all you need to do is follow the directions listed for the phone you're using and you're good. But in the offset that you manage to screw something up, then there are ways to bring it back (as long as it's a soft brick). Hope this helped.
Android Rooting question?
Q. Alright so Iwas wondering, if I root my phone, but don't change my rom or other internal stuff is there any risk? And is it possible to unroot a phone?
A. When you 'root' a phone what you are doing is gaining root (administrative) access to the system files in your phone. Is there a risk? Yes there is, you can mistakenly delete the wrong file and your phone could stop working. You could pick up a virus and that could wipe out your phone. As long as you are careful you should not have a problem.
Yes you can unroot a phone.
I have an android phone. I have rooted it but have not changed the rom (yet). I rooted it because I needed access to log files that need to be cleaned out periodically to keep the phone from locking up.
