Samsung galaxy player 5.0 or ipod touch 4g?

Q. Trying to decide which to get price is not a matter here

A. The Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0 (4inch display $230) and 5.0 (5inch display $270) both have a host of hardware features that the iPod Touch 4g does not have:

- GPS (the real deal, not just WiFi-based. Apps like "CoPilot Live USA" ($10) have offline maps so you can use the Galaxy Player just like dedicated GPS while traveling.)

- FM tuner (great for WiFi dead spots)

- Vibration feedback for UI, alarms, and games

- 3 silent capacitive touch controls on display (settings, home, and back)

- microSD card slot (up to 32GB card + built-in 8GB = 40GB max at any time. Be sure to buy the highest speed class (10 is highest right now) microSD card for snappy read/write speed.)

- LED camera flash (5.0 model only)

- 3.2MP back camera (iPod Touch has 0.7MP back camera)

- 1GHz Hummingbird processor

So, as for hardware features, the Galaxy Players 4.0 and 5.0 are far ahead of the iPod Touch.

However, the iPod Touch's 3.5inch 960Ã640 display has a higher resolution than the Galaxy Players' 800x480 Super TFT "SuperClear" LCD display. I own a Galaxy Player 4.0 and an iPod Touch 4g. If you bring the screens right up to your eyes, the iPod's display looks better, but if you view them from a normal distance, the Galaxy Players' display has darker black levels, can get much much brighter, and has a wider viewing angle. I prefer the Galaxy Player for normal arm's length viewing.

The Galaxy Players have a plastic back plate and are thicker than the iPod Touch 4g. However, they are surprisingly light for such comparatively large devices. The Galaxy 4.0 is quite pocketable, but I have not personally tried to pocket a Galaxy 5.0.

You can directly connect an iPod Touch 4g via a 3rd party cable to the HDMI, RCA, or component video inputs of a TV. This is known as MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link). The Galaxy Players do not support MHL, so no cable can export video from the device via the microUSB port. However, the Galaxy Players 4.0 and 5.0 do support AllShare (a Samsung customized layer on the DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) industry standard), which allows them to wirelessly transmit audio+video to AllShare/DLNA compatible TVs. The iPod's major advantage is access to iTunes. For Android devices, one has the Android Market, Samsung App, Amazon App Store, etc. You will probably be able to find the same or an equivalent Android app that you could find on iTunes. However, it's the shopping and dealing with multiple vendor portals (and even in-app purchases for app upgrades) that those used to the ease and comfort of iTunes may find disconcerting. Android portals for apps and content (books, music, video) are getting better every year, but no one Android portal is currently in the same class as Apple's iTunes. That is just something you would have to live with if you go with Android.

I can't speak to the Galaxy Players' durability, etc. because they have only been released in the US since Oct/16/2011. However, in my opinion, they offer superior hardware features (listed above) and, once you get all of your favorite apps and settings lined up, you will likely have a better day to day experience. However, if the notion of shopping around for Android apps you want and not being able to get all of your content in one place doesn't appeal to you, then I would recommend sticking
with Apple's iPod Touch 4g. The iPod Touch's display may be smaller and its hardware features in need of an upgrade (no luck this year), but it is a rock solid device with a the one-stop-shopping iTunes juggernaut at your fingertips.

Good luck, and happy shopping :)

Original Question

what should I get between a Samsung Galaxy 4.0 player or an Xbox 360 ?
Q. I really want an xbox ever since they came out and and my mom told me that If i passed the seventh grade, and now im in the tenth I would get one but i couldnt cause my dad was laid off his job. Now i was at best buy like a week ago and I seen this samsung galaxy player and I was like wow its better than any other shitty mp3player you can do lots of stuff like internet and add apps and ever since i seen it i can not stop thinking about i have seen every review video and unboxing video and i can not stop thinking about it. So the xbox 360 and the samsung galaxy player are the same price $199 so i was told if i can pull my grades up i could choose one. SO WHICH ONE SHOULD I CHOOSE TO GET????????? PLEASE HELP

A. get Samsung Galaxy 4.0.

i have both Samsung Galaxy 5.0.(the bigger version) and a 360. i rarely play my 360. and always use the galaxy player.

xbox 360 is 6 years old. its bound to upgrade to 720 sooner or later. besides what happens when you get bored of video games. you could sell it but there be a new 360. if you buy 360, buy from craigslist i paid 140 last may. but now i never play it anymore.

for the Samsung Galaxy 4.0, it is basically a smartphone without the cellular 3g/4g stuff. the player is portable and has internet when on wifi. you could text free over WiFi (Google voice with free number), call free over WiFi ($5 groove ip app), you could play games with emulators (i have n64, snes, genesis, gba), you could take pictures and Skype, email on the go over WiFi, apps like youtube facebook, Google maps provides you with free navigation. expandable memory (32 gb at amazon for $32), Google music lets you store 20,000 songs free, Google+ could instantly upload your photos in private album. also so many places have wifi like mcdonalds, starbucks, schools, colleges, libraries, stores. so you could it anywhere and once you get wifi, your good to go. although you dont always need wifi to enjoy the Samsung Galaxy 4.0

if you get Samsung Galaxy 4.0 and later you upgrade or get a smartphone that does same thing. you could always pass it on to your siblings or parents . what would parents do with a 360.

perhaps you should get Samsung Galaxy 5.0. its $30 more but everyone is impressed on how big my phone is (although it is not a phone)

Original Question

iPod touch 4. Or samsung galaxy player 5.0?
Q. My daughter wants either one of these products but she can't decide, she loves to be on YouTube and the Internet and she wants to put music and videos. Does the samsung galaxy player have an app store like the iPod touch does? In the samsung galaxy player is there free apps? What kind of apps does it have? In general which is better?
She can only get free games and she likes fruit ninja angry birds and stuff like that. Does the samsung galaxy player have a Netflix and Facebook app? And can either one of these products access zwinky.com?

A. Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0
Angry birds is free for androids. Not sure about fruit ninja.
Everyone is saying the iPods are great at playing music and video. Same does Samsung Galaxy player.
Androids are also smooth, fast, customizable, and reliable like iOS.
In terms of apps, all the popular apps for iPods are also on Android.Yes, Android has an Android Market like the App Store for iPods. And yes, there are free apps like iTunes. Yes, there is a Facebook and Netflix app.
Zwinky uses flash. iPods and iPhones do not have flash player. Samsung Galaxy has built in flash, so it should be able to go to zwinky.com. However, I do not know how well it will run because I don't go on zwinky.com. But because iPods do not have flash, iPods are completely out of the question if it can go to Zwinky.
iPods cannot play flash; therefore, it is limited to websites that do not have flash. So Android wins in compatibility.
Samsung Galaxy Player in the long run is cheaper because you can get a microSD card and it is cheaper than getting the 64Gb iPod. Because she likes to be on youtube and internet, a larger screen would be nice.

So Samsung Galaxy seems like the best for your daughter! :)
