Q. Of corse the ipad originally cost $750, but that was brand new at the time. Even if someone had an ipad that was in need of some sort of repair, I don't see spending $200 just for the parts to fix it.
A. ipad digitizer screen = $200-$250 with installation or self install with cheap stuff ($45)
Ipad home button = $4-8
ipad wifi antenna = $14-20
ipad the shell / casing = $25-$100 (depends on the idiot buying or selling)
so in conclusion ipad sells for parts, a cracked ipad with cheap stuff replacement is still cheaper than buying a new one
I have an iPad 2 that is broken...?
Q. I have an iPad 2 that is broken but I think I can't fix it. If I open it up and can't fix it can I still take it to the apple store and get it replaced for $250?
I don't have apple care + or any warranty on it. Just wondering if I can't fix it if the apple store can...
A. Replacing the ipad 2 digitizer is difficult but not impossible. there are a few points you have to be aware of when removing the old glass. 1. Start at the bottom left and work your way up and around to right before the power button. Then work from the starting point along the bottom up to the volume buttons. 2. On the bottom right just past the button is the Wi-fi- antenna. It is glued to the digitizer(glass) be very careful not to tear it or break the wire. 3. Near the volume and power buttons there is a flex cable that is exposed if you are using a knife or sharp blade you can easily cut this cable and it is very difficult to replace. the ipad will not power back on if this cable is cut in any way. 4 Be very careful when removing the LCD. I use latex gloves to avoid finger prints. 5. DO NOT use any metal blade or screwdriver to release the cables from the system board. to do so runs the risk of shorting out the system board which is a MAJOR repair.
When purchasing the digitizer, try to find OEM or equivilent (www.ipart2.com part A526 I believe for white and A525 for black) These come preinstalled with button camera cage and adhesive.
Wear latex goves to protect yourself from the glass. the Ipad glass fractures in very small shards that are painfull - Voice of experience here!
Is it possible for a iPad to get fixed?
Q. My brother spit up on his iPad while it was on. It didn't get turned off until 40 min. later. Two days later I put rice on the iPad is it to late?
A. The iPads are pretty well sealed. About the only places for any liquid to enter are through the audio jack, Dock connector and home button. Typically, it takes full submersion (dropping it into a tub of water) or repeatedly handling the iPad with dripping wet hands for the liquid to enter through those points. I've been repairing iPads for the last few months (mostly cracked digitizers from being dropped) and I've only seen 1 with liquid damage where it was dropped in a pool - The only things that I HAD to replace were the headphone jack, speakers, and the dock connector - All were damaged by corrosion several months AFTER he had dropped it in the poo! Everything else was dry. including the LCD panel.
However, the short answer to your question is, "Yes" iPads can be repaired. A visual inspection will tell you whether or not any liquid entered the headphone jack or dock connector.
