Q. If I insert my AT&T sim card into the Samsung galaxy, will i be able to make calls, send texts, etc from my number? My phone is broken and I really want a tablet, so i figured this would be a good compromise.
A. No the samsung Galaxy Tab is not a cell phone. You can't make and receive calls on this device. However thare are apps that will make the device receive and make calls such as Google Voice, Textfree that will give you a phone number so you can use this tablet to make calls.
From what I notice the Samsung Galaxy Tab is only available for Verizon and Sprint. Both Verizon and Sprint use CDMA network and does not use any sim card. So on the Galaxy Tab, it does not have a sim card holder inside. So with A T&T you need GSM network and a sim card. So The Samsung Galaxy Tab will not be work with your sim card.

Which is better, CnM Touchpad 7 or Samsung Galaxy tab?
Q. They are both Android tablets

A. The Samsung Galaxy Tab MK2 [I assume you mean the 7 inch version, although there is a larger model] is the best Android tablet around in my opinion. Very good review is here. check it out for yourself: http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews/tablets/3350565/samsung-galaxy-tab-2-70-review/
Samsung are one of the few tablet makers that are getting Apple worried as it takes some market share from the ipad. Apple have sued Samsung several times in several countries trying to get the Tab banned................
Ipad or Samsung Galaxy Tab?
Q. Ipad 16gb 1st Gen. or Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0? I have a $350 budget. Anything else that might be worth that price? I've read reviews but I am hoping someone that has used both of these can tell me what I should get.
Thanks in advance!
A. Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0
- While it is a smaller screen, unlike the iPad, it supports HD and Adobe Flash
- The Android operating system is much more flexible than Apple's (ie. Adobe Flash)
- The iPad tablet is very poor in the respect that it only comes with the space you buy it with.
- To my knowledge, every non-Apple device/tablet may come with an SD card slot. For the Galaxy, this means you can buy it at any storage size, and spend significantly less money by purchasing/using an SD card with the space you truly desire.
I have not used either of these extensively, but I have used them enough to notice differences. I also know many people who went from Android to Apple and greatly regret it. As far as your budget, the Amazon Kindle Fire is also 7 inches, and works as a tablet. However, I know nearly nothing of this product, except for it being in your price/screen size range.
