Q. I'd like to buy a Samsung Galaxy s4 but due to complications in my data plan, I can't buy a phone from Cspire. I have to buy it used from Ebay, Craigslist, etc. I'm a big computer nerd so if it can be done I can probably figure it out, but I'm inexperienced in the realm of cell phone unlocking. Thanks in advance! :)
A. C Spire is CDMA network
The Samsung S IV is only available so far for Verizon model SGH-I545.
CDMA phones are not unlocked as there is no lock.
Locking is only on GSM HANDSETS which have sim cards, a locked handset will only accept a simcard which is the same as the network it was ORIGINALLY supplied to.
The sim card in a GSM phone is the most important component the handset itself...... dressing. The simcard is what connects to the network.
CDMA handsets require activation by the network so they can be used ON the network, there is no lock
So if a network activated a handset it could be used. I believe that C Spire would not or could not activate s Verizon handset. If that is the case You could not use it.
Finally CDMA handsets get bad ESN. GSM uses BLOCKING whereby if the handset IMEI is registered on a database as reported lost or stolen it has the same effect as a bad ESN, the phone cannot be used on any network.
A sim card is essentially a phone number which the network controls add to that the handset IMEI, so you can use any unlocked handset on any network, all you need is to that is to have a pre pay sim card. If the handset IMEI is reported lost or stolen and appears on that "database" it can't be used ever on any network and you may have a valid simcard but NO handset to use
Is the new samsung galaxy nexus a cdma or a gsm phone?
Q. I wanna get the new samsung galaxy nexus which is available on verizon which is a CDMA phone (without sim card) I dont want to get a phone without sim. cos in future if i goto some other country then i can use this same phone. Some one at t-mobile told me that i can buy the phone unlocked from best buy and put a sim and use it.. is this true?
@stephen dude from where did u buy the phone from and how much?
A. The one launched on Verizon is CDMA. And GSM version is not yet launched in USA and not sold in best buy yet, however you can buy international GSM unlocked versions that work on both T-Mob and ATT (but not on Verizon or Sprint) from online retailers like Amazon, eXpansys-usa, Negri etc.. But you need to be careful check with the seller if they provide any warranty, because very few would help with warranty since samsung does not honor warranty on these. Also not that these come with high price at around $670. If you can wait for few more months, ATT and T-mobile probably would launch in US and the prices would be cheaper.
Sony Xperia S or Samsung Galaxy S II?
Q. Hello Guys, Which phone should I pick up?
Xperia S is only 3.6% costlier than S2.
A. Samsung i9100 Galaxy S II Unlocked GSM Smartphone with 8 MP Camera, Android OS, 16 GB Internal Memory, Touchscreen, Wi-Fi, and GPS--No Warranty (Noble Black) Awesome screen - all the greatness of OLED (perfect blacks, high contrast, looks good in direct sunlight) without the ugliness that was PenTile. Here you just get the bright, popping colors. Oh, and at 4.3", it's a pleasure to look at from any distance. The resolution is still 800x480, though. Wish they'd up it to match iPhone.
