HTC One X vs Samsung Galaxy S3?

Q. I am trying to find a new smartphone to purchase and am trying to decide between these two right now.

So far, I am leaning toward the HTC, but I am open to pros and cons of both.

Also, any suggestions for phones that perform at the same level or higher than these two are appreciated; they both seem to be very large and it would be nice, but not necessary, to have a smaller screen with similar functions and performance.

Please give lots of info and give REASONS, not just say which you like better. I want you to CONVINCE me to your point of view.

A. i could honestly write an essay on why the S3 is better but i have to go to bed now its nearly 12am where i am ;) right, il summarise why you should get the s3:

*inspired by nature: the phones touchwiz nature UX interface is beautiful alongside the Super AMOLED screen. The lockscreen ripples when you swipe to unlock. Brilliant. And thats compared to HTC's boring pull the ring from the bottom. In general having the overall theme of nature is nicer than a classic iphone style.

*Camera: Yes on paper their both 8mp but the S3 seems to have better quality shots and more saturated colors. AND you've got burst mode for taking 20 photos at once , fabulous. On top of this, the front facing camera is 1.9mp, it was higher than HTC i dont remember exactly but it was higher than HTC meaning you can record videos in 720 HD p, SUPERB for skype calls

*Smart Stay: the front facingg camera will periodically check for your eyes, if it sees them, the screen will stay lit. That feature is just superb, im sitting in an airplane, long haul flight, reading an e-book and the screen stays lit the whole time :) on top of this it doesnt affect the already very good battery life. Also, the battery if removable + replaceable, unlike HTC

*microSD slot.....what do i need to say here, HTC doesnt have one but they are brilliant for extra storage.

*internet browser OK i dont know if HTC has these as well but when you double tap on an internet page the text on the screen will adjust to fit the page. You can also save pages for offline reading.
Cons of the S3:
*Design: Some say this phone is ugly.... but i dont think it is. Also, the cheap plasticy back cover can make the phone feel cheap but you can get around this by using a case, then its better :)

*Phone is scarily easy to drop when holding it up to take a photo with a camera...and if you do drop it, not unlikely, given its tall height, thin body and apply the laws of physics....yeah its screwed after that, gorrila glass doesnt make it invincible.
*S-voice, siris competitor, yeah its ok but sometimes it makes me want to pull me hair out
*Super AMOLED screen can be hard to see in direct sunlight, even on full brightness.

Well i dont have time to write on the One X but hope i helped for now anyway :)

Can I update my Samsung Galaxy SIII from ICS to Jelly Bean?
Q. My SIII is unlocked and I'm in Asia, so can I update it??

A. While the Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean update status is simply listed as âcoming soonâ in the U.S., it seems that Korea has an actual date. According to Sam Mobile, the Korean LTE models of the Galaxy S3 will receive an update to the latest version of Android on Oct. 9th.

The official model numbers for the upgrade include the SHV-E210S, SHV-E210K and SHV-210L.Unfortunately, thereâs no love for the international 3G version. Considering Korea is the companyâs home market, itâs doubtful that the international version will have to wait too much longer to get into the action, although some markets have already started receiving the update.

There are many reasons to be excited about Jelly Bean. For one thing, the platform is much faster thanks to Project Butter. Fast is one thing, but what about stability? The overall usability for applications and system stability is dramatically improved as well.

Jelly Beanâs changes donât stop there. Probably the most exciting thing about Jelly Bean continues to be Google Now. Most of us already know what Google Now has to offer. For the few of you that donât, itâs basically an assistant-like search system that anticipates your needs by pre-fetching information.

You can also look forward to improved camera functionality, resizable widgets, improved notifications and an enhanced calendar app.

It has been a long wait for Galaxy S3 users globally, but the reign of Jelly Bean on the S3 is almost here. Are you looking forward to ditching ICS in favor of Android 4.1?

launched next week after the company's Mobile Unpacked event in Berlin, Android Central can exclusively reveal. Sources familiar with Samsung's plans inform us that the firmware is in the final stages of testing. The current schedule calls for the release of the international S3 Jelly Bean update shortly after the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event in Berlin, Germany next Wednesday, Aug. 29. That's the same event at which we're expecting to see Samsung's Galaxy Note successor. Following the event, we understand the update will roll out in a number of countries, including the United Kingdom.

As we revealed during our teardown of a leaked Jelly Bean build, the update will introduce familiar Jelly Bean features like the redesigned notification shade and Google Now. In addition, it'll include new TouchWiz features like "dormant mode" for better notification and alert management, as well as "easy mode" for simplified home screen operation.

As for the U.S. and Canada, we have no information on when the LTE-capable Snapdragon S4-powered Galaxy S3 variants can expect their Jelly Bean update, but we're sure Samsung will be just as keen to deliver speedy Android 4.1 upgrades for customers in North America too.

Regardless, international S3 owners should have reason to celebrate in a little over a week's time, as Samsung turns around a major Android OS update in record time. It certainly wouldn't be the first time the manufacturer's delivered a product on announcement -- last week it announced and launched the Galaxy Note 10.1 on the same day in New York City.
