Q. i just got a new phone, galaxy s3 and i really want to protect it. brand names and if u can where to get it.
A. Well the most protective case is the Otterbox Armor but it's really big and unconfortable. There is also the Otterbox Defender case but it's unconfortable too (despite it's smaller than the Armor one). If you want a case that offers great protection from falls and dust without appearing as a brick, the best in my opinion is the Otterbox Commuter. I've bought it and I can say that worths all the money I spent.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Tips?
Q. So i am upgrading from my iPhone 4S to a Galaxy S4 in a couple days. And i was wondering, is there anything i need to know before buying? I know it has a plastic feeling and the cameras really good. So keep away from those topics.
Also i'm curious as to if the Galaxy S4 will be supported for at least 2 years.
A. Get a good data plan.
Get a good case. Don't crimp on this. Protect the Precious.
It's big. Stick it next to an iPhone and it is comical. Big toys consume power. Investigate 2nd or external battery (one of the true benefits). I went with an Otterbox Defender case and an external battery.
7 pages of 16 icons/page get used up quickly. Put a folder system in place for organization. I'd take everything that was on the pages from Samsung/Phone provider and stick it in a folder. As you become comfortable with the phone, be sure to explore these apps. I find something like Apps Organizer is slightly better than stock folders, but it is a pain to setup and it can crash, requiring a hard reset.
Take control of WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and Data. They waste power and can cost you money. I use SmartWiFi toggler.
Check out virus scanners for security and apps which monitor your privacy.
There's lots of good apps out there. Don't be afraid to explore. I'd leave 1 page for new apps and experimentation. Use something like Fetch to find similar apps (very ad driven but it does the job). Something like BAM (very ad driven) is good for finding popular or trending apps. If I need to do something, I find an app on BAM or Play, and letch Fetch find similar. I experiment with the offerings and keep the best. Usually if the free app does what I want, I purchase the pro version after a trial period.
Check out Android or Samsung user forums to keep you current. I like Drippler because it filters news for S4.
One app I love is DashClock for lockscreen and daydream. In daydream mode it gives me a clock and updates while charging. You wake up and you know instantly whats what.
As for support, I don't believe you have to worry about that. There will probably be 4 new Samsungs but it will be supported.
And guess what, it is even a phone....
should I get the otterbox defender or commuter case?
Q. I just got the samsung galaxy s4, and I know for a fact that eventually along the lines in the next two years I will at least drop it a few times. so I have taken it upon myself to purchase an otterbox case, however I cannot decide between the Defender or the Commuter. The Defender offers maximum protection, I was checking it out and I think that you could never break your phone in that case ever. However, it looks like you'd have to be extremely unlucky to break your phone in a commuter as well. I can get a commuter case for 22 dollars less than a defender, however I am not sure which I want to get. from people I know with cases like that they say the silicone outerlayer of the defender is tough to get in and out of pockets when wearing jeans, and it is not fashionable to wear the belt clip. however, the commuter looks fine and the plastic outerlayer would definitely slip into a jean pocket much easier. so, help from you folks that have went through these cases?
A. There's a reason the Commuter case is 22 dollars less expensive. While it is most certainly protective, it's not nearly as rugged as the Defender case is. It's called a "Commuter" case because it offers protection for people who are commuters and aren't necessarily using their phone in environments where it could easily get mangled.
That said, I'm a college student and work in a restaurant, so I'm not in any particularly dangerous situations with my phone, HOWEVER, I am extremely clumsy and tend to drop things on a regular basis (including my phone). I had a crappy plastic shell case on my iPhone when I bought it, and about a week later dropped it in a parking lot and chipped the rim of the glass on two corners of the phone. That afternoon on my way home, I went and bought an Otterbox Defender case because I knew that my iPhone wouldn't last long. So far, it's served its purpose. I've dropped it numerous times (including on tile and pavement) and the phone has been completely protected. The case is pretty resistant to damage as well since it's mostly rubber, and it still looks practically brand new after having it for 2 months.
I guess what it boils down to is how much of a klutz you are, whether or not you have your phone in risky situations often, and if being able to put it in your jeans pockets is really important. Personally, I don't put my phone in my pants pocket often (usually is in my backpack, front coat pocket, or my hand), so I the issue with getting it in and out of tight pockets isn't relevant to me. If you're someone who is pretty light on your electronics, the Commuter will probably do fine. If you're clumsy like me, the Defender is worth the money.
