How to screen capture on a Samsung Captivate Galaxy S?
Q. I screen captured someones Facebook page months ago and have no idea how I did it. Can you screen capture with the phone by itself without downloading a bunch of stuff??
A. If you wanted to share some tutorials to your friends or if you are a tech blogger like me then it is very important that you should be in a position to take screen shots so that you can share things with others. But out of the box you cannot take screen shots right away from the device, for this holy thing you need to take some pains in configuring. I would not say pains but since itâs an additional thing am calling pains. Iâm not the techie who believes in rooting things and then taking chances to brick the phone as rooting has its own advantages and disadvantages. So, letâs proceed to the procedure where in you can take snapshots without rooting your device that is Samsung Galaxy S.
Before proceeding to the procedure, letâs download and install some of the ingredient softwares like Sun Java SE Development Kit (SDK) and Android SDK . After downloading these two software tools you need to unzip and install the same on the desktop. Now, you will have to set the debugging mode. Just tap on Applications icon from the home screen, select Settings, then Applications, you will now find an option called Development, select that. After selecting you will find an option called USB Debugging, select that before connecting your device to PC or Laptop for further process. Also you will find an exclamation mark on the above bar in red color.
Now, connect your device which is now in the debugging mode with the computer via a USB cable. If you are connecting your device for the first time then you will find that some of the devices will be getting installed as shown below. In some cases, you will be requiring internet connection, so always keep it available.
After connecting your phone with computer, you should see a shortcut in the android-sdk-windows folder on the desktop called Screenshot Shortcut which directly points to the ddms.bat file in tools folder, now just double click on the shortcut or the bat file so that this file opens up. Now, you can see that a black cmd screen and after sometime you should see a Graphical User Interface (GUI) window as shown below,
Now, if you can see the phone as shown above then everything is going correct. If you are not seeing the phone that means something is wrong with the steps you have done so far, So please scroll to the end to see an alternate method to take screen shots without rooting.
Now, go to Device Menu and then to the Screenshot option or press Ctrl+ S. You should now able to see the live screen of your phone. Click on Refresh to refresh screen and Copy to copy the screen shot. It is recommended to do a copy rather than save option which will directly save the screen shot easily.
After finishing with the screen shot process donât forget to TURN OFF USB Debugging mode from phone. So with simple steps you have successfully learnt on how to take screen shots from your Samsung Galaxy S and that too without rooting your device. You can also capture screen shots withourt rooting easily.
