Q. I'm looking for a speaker for my iPad... and i stumbled upon this one:
http://imaingo.com/imaingo-xp/
how can i know how loud it can go.? the features say 5 watt per channel.. what does that mean?
I need the speaker to be loud enough to play backing tracks for my electric guitar
A. Hi,
Here is a chart
1 watt = 85 dB -------------- 93 dB
2 watts = 88 dB ------------ 96 dB
4 watts = 91 dB ------------ 99 dB
8 watts = 94 dB ------------ 102 dB
16 watts = 97 dB ---------- 105 dB
32 watts = 100 dB -------- 108 dB
50 watts ~ 101.5 dB ------ 109.5 dB
64 watts = 103 dB --------- 111 dB
128 watts = 106 dB ------- 114 dB
200 watts ~ 108 dB ------- 116 dB
256 watts = 109 dB ------- 117 dB
512 watts = 112 dB ------- 120 dB
So, 5 watts will be approximately 100db which is not so loud. But yes, you can hear it in a room enclosure of 43 sqfeet.
whats better, a nook tablet, or a kindle fire?
Q. Ok so my mom and i have been discussing getting me a nook tablet for christmas. My dad had been asking some guys at work about it and they said that apart from the fact that it was 50$ cheaper, it also had more apps than the nook tab. I really need to know asap. If you could tell me all the advantages and disadvantages/main apps, tht would b gr8 thnx!
A. A kindlfe fire.
although a nook is good too. KINDLE FIRE ALL THE WAY. but the iPad would be best. but it IS expensive. try to get an ipad. it is TRULY worth it. 10 times better than kindle fire.
but here:
Both models perform well for reading
If you're looking to replace books with an e-reader, you'll be glad to know that both models perform very well.
The screens are nearly identical and the resolution is good. Both devices offer several fonts, font sizes and line-spacing options so that reading can be tailored to your needs.
I found the Nook Tablet's touchscreen to be a bit more responsive. The Fire often stuttered just a bit when I tapped it to advance book pages.
This stutter on the Fire made navigation on the home screen difficult. The Fire uses a carousel of apps and books as its main navigation tool to switch between tasks. I found I was often advancing one step past where I wanted to go. The Fire also crashed once while I was trying to open a book.
The Nook Tablet has a bit of an edge when it comes to children's books because it has a large collection of interactive books. Parents can also use the Nook Tablet's microphone to record their own narration. The Fire does not have a microphone.
Fire feels comfortable, solid in the hand
The Kindle Fire smartly borrowed the one thing that was good about the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet: its incredible hand feel.
The Fire has a rubberized back and solid, boxy build that feels instantly comfortable in the hand for long reading or video-watching sessions.
The one peculiar omission from the Kindle Fire's Spartan enclosure: volume buttons. For those who will be using the device to watch video regularly, this might be a bit of a nuisance. Users must use the on-screen touch controls to turn the Fire's volume up and down.
The Nook Tablet retains the signature Nook hook in the bottom left corner and tapered edges. This seems like a strange choice. For a device that's designed to disappear altogether while in use, often for hours at a time, this sort of loud design choice is perplexing -- especially when you consider that it has no practical purpose.
Both devices can connect only to WiFi networks and lack Bluetooth and GPS functions.
The Nook Tablet is 0.5 ounces lighter than the Fire, which is an imperceptible difference. The Fire has a smaller footprint, though, which gives it a more portable feeling. Both devices can easily slip into the pocket of a suit coat.
Overall, the Fire feels more expensive and would be my pick based on looks and feel alone.
Amazon has the edge here, with more than 8,500 Fire-ready apps. The Nook Tablet has access to more than 1,000, Barnes & Noble says, and the company has plans for thousands by year's end.
The Nook Tablet has some perks made possible by Barnes & Noble brick-and-mortar locations. Nook users can access the in-store WiFi free of charge and read some e-books for an hour per day while they're in a Barnes & Noble store.
The Nook Tablet leans a bit more heavily on the Hulu Plus app to supply streaming content. Barnes & Noble lacks its own streaming service, but more video consumption options are coming in 2012, the company says.
How do they compare with the iPad?
they dont.
While the Fire and Nook Tablet include e-mail programs, the e-mail experience is a bit limited and clunky. Web browsing on the devices isn't a dream either.
These are e-readers that also browse the Web. They are not computers in your hands.
In a match-up between the two, the slim advantage has to go to the Fire for its lower price and overall better build.
The Fire also comes with a better selection of digital content. And while it puts some big limits on the e-reader experience -- you're largely held inside Amazon's closed walls -- it's a better overall product.
Macbook or Macbook Pro for College?
Q. I'll be going to Iowa State for Aerospace Engineering and Navy ROTC, and I'll either go with a Macbook and baseline ipad (ebooks and notes and stuff) or 13" macbook pro. Any Suggestions of which setup to use?
A. I will strongly recommend you Apple MacBook Pro MC700LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop. The move to i5 CPUs in the Pro line has made what was once a close decision into not much of one. For an extra couple hundred dollars, you get a much faster CPU, twice the RAM, a bigger hard drive, and an enclosure which will age very well. The graphics are so clear, it is so fast and so light weight. You do give up the discrete GPU. I would not get the MacBook; it is not competitive. You will be able to do all college work, skype, music, watch movies, and light game like CSS, and all fine. You can check this out at

Read this opinion from an actual user, and you'll know why I recommend this laptop
