I'm pretty sure they don't use iTunes because it's mainly for Apple. So what do those other phones or mp3 players use primarily for their songs or media? Because I know iTunes is the most popular one.
A. I do not know about the Zune, but Android phones and most other MP3 players don't need software. You just store your media in your Music or Video folder in Windows, where it is automatically sorted by album, artist, year and so forth and you just drag and drop your media into the player like you would a flash drive. That's it. Though I believe Winamp can be used to give more of a "syncing" option if you really want that for some reason. I used to have an iPod, and it was a pain, iTunes is slow, CPU-hogging and buggy.

A. To play iTunes music with your phone, you need to convert the iTunes music (aac/m4a/m4p) to mp3 first due to the protection.
