How to fix the page numbers on my Kindle Fire?

Q. My dad recently gave me his Kindle Fire because he bought himself a new tablet. Every time I buy a new book from amazon the page numbers are wrong. He doesn't recall if the page numbers have always been messed up. We bought it not even a year ago.

For example, a book that is 400 pages shows to be anywhere from 3000 to 64000 pages in the location bar. The book isn't really that long so page one is always a high number. The percentage works on the location bar. This is really annoying. How can I fix the page numbers?

A. Unfortunately, the 1st generation Kindle Fire doesn't support page number right now... It only has location.

You can see this is improved on 2nd generation Kindle Fire. It has page number:

Let's hope amazon will upgrade the 1st generation Kindle Fire software later.

Original Question

What alternatives are there for the Amazon Kindle?
Q. I like the Amazon kindle, but I heard Sony has them, too. Could someone help me find the best and affordable one?

If better ones come out later, what makes them better than the ones now?

A. The main competitor for the Amazon Kindle is the Sony Reader. In my opinion, the Kindle is the better option. Since Amazon is in the business of books, there are MANY more titles available through Amazon than through Sony, and the Kindle also has wireless. There are a few other readers out there, but they are much more expensive, and the advantages you might get out of them (slightly larger screen)aren't worth the added cost. The current Sony reader is second generation, while the Kindle is first generation, so there might be fewer bugs to be worked out than with the Kindle, but it doesn't seem that the Kindle has that many bugs to begin with!

Amazon hasn't said when a second generation Kindle will be coming out, so it will be a while. The current Kindle is an excellent book reader, and I think any future versions will only differ than this one in the bells and whistles. To be honest, I don't want or need my books to have bells and whistles, so I don't think it would be worth the wait, or worth upgrading to a second generation Kindle.

How do you download Adobe flash player to kindle fire hd?
Q. I've tried downloading just about every version, but every time I try to use something that requires it, it tells me I need to upgrade my flash player. which version of flash player do I use? how do I get to see everything I've downloaded?

A. You get to sideload the Flash on the Kindle Fire HD, and use the version for Android tablet. There's a good discussion here on whether to download Flash installation file and other files, it should work

Hope that helps.
