Q. Recently got the Samsung Galaxy S3 and got a contract on it from Tmobile, but it's coming out really expensive and virgin mobile and metropcs have offers significantly cheaper, thus saving me money even if I spend on a cancel fee. So is it possible to unlock it and switch? I've never done something like it before and was curious. Thanks
A. All Samsung phones that use an Exynos processor can be easily unlocked with no experience required. Yours is a Galaxy S3 from T-mobile which uses a Qualcomm dual core processor. What this means is that you have no easy way out for unlocking (one click unlocking, but even then charge money). After some research I found something that could work for your T-mobile (t999) S3. Or you could choose to pay for an unlock code with your IMEI... eh.
Thing is, you need to be using 4.1 Jelly Bean, so confirm that you have updated to 4.1 or have at least rooted and have a ROM with it. As you're just curious, I'll tell you the method passed on by a guy anyway.
His exact words:
"Before doing the instructions below, please double check your phone that it is actually LOCKED by inserting a sim card from a different carrier/provider...you may or may not leave that sim card on the phone while unlocking
Note: your phone must be running at least Jelly Bean 4.1 otherwise some of the menu choices are not present
Just dial the following keys *#197328640#
Main Menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF > (after choosing this option, wait about 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select Back, now you are in [6] Network Lock then choose [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ ..... wait for a minute then reboot your phone... enjoy!!! There is no confirmation on the phone that the unlock was successfull.... just reboot your phone...."

Originally intended for the Note 2 (I own a note 2, factory unlocked). but was said to work with some GS3 phones after I checked it out a bit. There have been many comments saying the T-mobile GS3 (t999) works with this method (after some searching through the thread). All credit for this unlock method goes to him.
One of the members saying it worked:
"Worked great on T-Mobile GS3 (SGH-T999), Frosty JB V11 Rom. Tested with AT&T sim."

Found that after a quick search.
So, now that I should have answered the question, I'm just going to ask that you provide feedback about what T-mobile currently charges for your plan, as I'm curious how you would end up saving by canceling your contract (I really can't see that, sorry).
Why? I'm going to be blunt (sorry!), there's a new prepaid carrier called Solavei that has started up around 3 months ago (already more than 110,000 have switched to Solavei). They offer a plan for unlimited text, talk, and data (throttle after 4GB of use in a single month, but you're allowed to use it as it is throttled, as it is an unlimited plan) for $49 dollars (activation fee of $49 and also a $9 sim card fee, contractless) a month and they operate on the same T-mobile network you currently run on. The theory behind Solavei is that they have no advertisements, however members can enroll family, friends, and people they know and be compensated for its (Solavei is a prepaid carrier that bases their service on the power of relationships). Although $49 isn't the best of the best in prices for this plan, it certainly is much better than what non-prepaid carriers are offering for this, and is actually very close (1 or 2 places behind) to the top prepaid carriers. The main attraction however is that you can sign up people and be compensated (unlike other carriers), you can see here how compensation works: http://www.solavei.com/how-it-works/compensation By the way, they have already paid out more than $3,000,000 to their members. The compensation plan is elaborate, the service is feature rich, and there's much more to be said, but if you aren't interested then you wouldn't ask me for more information.
I don't want to sound like I'm marketing something, I just thought it was an opportunity to offer you an alternative since you're looking for an alternative prepaid carrier for lower amounts of money. If you are actually interested (believe me, I have tried convincing people, but they probably have to watch a Webinar to actually be convinced to join. I feel it's a great opportunity if you have friends, and still a good service even if you don't plan to invite anyone, as there is a great customer service that answers instantly and the plan offers the same as most other prepaid carriers at near the same or lower price with compensation for inviting), then please register through my link as I'd be deeply appreciative of it (I can offer you advice regardless of whether you choose to go with Solavei or not, however they require that you enroll under a sponsor or user if you DO choose to enroll)...

If you're interested, select ichigoyeh when asked who's your sponsor (that is my internet name if you haven't noticed).

Should I get a knockoff version of the Samsung Galaxy S4?
Q. I'm thinking of getting a clone of the S4, and it seems to be very good. Is it worth getting? I saw a review on it, and it seems to be very nice.

It's very cheap, and I want to make sure it'll get to where I am safely and work well. I'm also wondering if it's unlocked, so I can use my tracfone SIM card and use it on it.
Thanks in advance!
A. I am not sure you could get a phone company to activate service to a brand X phone. If you can, it looks like an excellent price.
